We had the good fortune of connecting with Marielle L’Heureux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marielle, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Prehab San Diego opened July 2020, due to the expansive running community San Diego has to offer. As a small business, our clinicians, Dr. Lily Seynaeve, DPT, and Marielle L’Heureux, ATC are able to provide 1 on 1, custom, client focused care to the San Diego community. Prehab’s number one value is top of the line care for our clients. Traditional Physical Therapy clinics focus on returning their patients to daily life, Prehab focuses on returning our patients back to their athletic goals, whether running, soccer, another sport, or general fitness. We take pride in the amount of empathy, passion, and care we are able to bring to our clients. Our clinicians are former and current athletes themselves, so they are able to directly relate to our clients which help form an even closer bond. Trust is one of the most important attributes when it comes to rehab or sports performance and our passion in helping others invoke the highest of trust within our clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Prehab San Diego consists of one Doctor of Physical Therapy, Dr. Lily Seynaeve, one Certified Athletic Trainer, Marielle L’Heureux and the Clinic Manager, Natalie Argueta, a former national women’s soccer player. One thing that sets Prehab apart from others is how involved in running and fitness our staff is. Dr. Lily was an NCAA collegiate cross country and track runner, Natalie was part of the Guatemalan National Soccer team, and Marielle was raised on the track as well as a high school cross country runner. Having an athletic staff but also a staff heavily involved in running, provides the unique ability to connect with our clients. Prehab is very much a lead by example clinic and the clinicians do not ask clients to do exercises or activities that they are not able to do themselves. It helps set a proper precedent in the importance of taking care of your body to prevent injuries from even occurring. Prehab utilizes a signature Gait Scrip system with dual video cameras with precision photoelectric measurements, 3D motion capture system, and real time analysis and results for the running community. For other non-running athletes, Prehab offers a comprehensive multi-test Athletic Assessment to determine an athletes inefficiencies, strength, reaction time, agility and movement quality. Both are customized and used to provide individualized treatment and training to our athletes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is an amazing place to live and provides a variety of locations to visit! For our runners in the community our favorite place to run is along the Sunset Cliffs path in Ocean Beach or the boardwalk between Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. The best part of San Diego is soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the outdoors. Mission Bay is another of our favorite locations to run, hang out, get out on the water on a boat or paddle board as well! For someone new to the area, one of the best ways to make friends is by going to the Pacific Beach Run club on Wednesdays or Saturdays, everyone is so supportive and welcoming! San Diego also has the best food around, and you can never go wrong with a California Burrito.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Prehab San Diego would be nothing without our owner, Alex Gometz, DPT. Prehab was founded in New York in 2001. Alex Gometz, a doctor of Physical Therapy, was seeing a gap in the healthcare system when it came to preventing injuries before they even occur. He started Prehab as a way to bridge the gap between reactive therapy and proactive therapy. Prehab became a primarily running focused clinic due to our comprehensive 3D Running Gait Analysis for runners to see their injury risk, reasons for previous injuries, and increase their running performance. Now that we have broken into the San Diego community, the local run clubs are some of our favorite and most appreciated connections. The Pacific Beach Run Club, Milestone Run Club, Stride Fitness Little Italy and San Diego Track Club have all been amazing groups to partner with. The runners of those group not only appreciate the care Prehab has to offer but also support our endeavors within the community as well.
