We had the good fortune of connecting with Marbé Briceno Velázquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marbé, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factors behind my success and the success of my brand are discipline, perseverance, and a genuine passion for what I do. Additionally, I’ve learned the importance of patience, as success doesn’t happen overnight. I’ve climbed the ladder step by step without taking shortcuts, which has allowed me to mature in my understanding of my craft, the industry, the process involved, and my own identity. I’ve come to appreciate that being authentic and true to myself is key to my achievements.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was fortunate to grow up in a family that fostered creativity and a commitment to positive impact. My mother, an impressionist artist, and my father, a dedicated political activist, instilled in me a deep appreciation for both art and social responsibility from an early age. These values are at the core of who I am today.
Born in a tropical Caribbean nation of Spanish descent, I was raised under the radiant Miami sun, and later, I embraced the diverse cultures of Europe. Settling in Los Angeles for several years and embarking on numerous global travels have contributed to my unique perspective. My multicultural background, combined with my innate ability to absorb and blend with different environments, sets me apart as an artist. I’ve honed my craft over the years, immersing myself in various cultures and architecture and understanding the essence of each. This has not only allowed me to seamlessly blend these influences into my work but has also cultivated a distinct edge in my artistry.

My journey has been far from easy. It’s been a painstaking climb, step by step. I’ve dedicated myself to rigorous studies and honed my technical skills to achieve excellence in my work. Countless sleepless nights and relentless effort have been the norm. I’m proud to say that I’ve reached where I am through sheer determination and effort, without relying on paid PR for recognition.
Challenges are a constant companion on this journey. Overcoming them demands strength, dedication, and self-confidence. Knowing myself, my roots, my goals, and my aspirations has been vital in surmounting these hurdles.
Every day brings new lessons. I’ve embraced a philosophy of continual learning, applying insights from every aspect of life to grow both personally and professionally.

My brand, Marbé Designs, was born unexpectedly. The story in a nugshel is after returning from the east caring for my mother during her battle with cancer, I found myself at a crossroads, unemployed and uncertain. A build/Architecture company where I used to work approached me to assist with a presentation, and overnight, I had to create and register a company name—thus began the story of Marbé Designs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Los Angeles is an incredibly versatile and exciting city full of incredible corners with a lot of culture. Every day I drive around, I feel like I learn something new.
When someone comes to visit, I like to take them to the beach, immersing ourselves in the soothing embrace of the Pacific Ocean. Also, to the mountains for a hike, relishing panoramic views of the city and its horizon.

LA is a hub for art enthusiasts, I would love to experience a day of cultural exploration. Take them to the Getty Center, where art and architecture harmonize beautifully with its views. And also we dive into the creative realm at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where art becomes a transformative journey.
LA’s culinary scene is amazing, so we’d savor a variety of flavors. From Japanese cuisine in Little Tokyo to Mediterranean delights in Glendale’s Armenian community. I take them to indulge in mouthwatering burgers and authentic Chinese dishes in Chinatown.
I drive them around LA’s vibrant neighborhoods, engage with diverse communities, and soak in the city’s lively atmosphere. This city offers a never-ending tapestry of experiences, ensuring that every moment is filled with discovery and delight.”

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey towards success has been shaped by several crucial factors, each playing a vital role in my accomplishments. Foremost among them is the unwavering support of my family, whose encouragement and belief in me have been a constant source of strength. In addition to my family, the camaraderie and support from my colleagues and peers in my field have been invaluable. Their guidance, mentorship, and collaboration have not only enriched my knowledge but have also propelled me forward on this path to success.
However, if I were to single out one pivotal moment in my journey, it would undoubtedly be the opportunity granted to me by my very first client. Their willingness to open their doors and entrust me with their project was a transformative experience. It not only bolstered my self-confidence but also provided me with the platform to showcase my abilities and establish my reputation in the industry.

The American Society of Interior Designers has been a crucial ally throughout my career as a certified professional in the industry. I’ve been a part of this community since my studies, and I’m now honored to serve as the President of the Pasadena chapter.
