Meet Luz Gomez | Single mama and small business owner of a mobile coffee cart

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luz Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luz, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
What makes me happiest is being surrounded by friends, family, and even new faces. I also cherish the quiet joy of solo coffee dates, where I can slow down and savor those gentle, nurturing pauses. But above all, the most fulfilling part is being able to offer a touch of love through what I do. Serving a quality cup of coffee allows me to be a small but meaningful part of someone’s day, whether they’re celebrating, heading into an important meeting, or simply in need of a little extra warmth and care.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My love for coffee began when I was a little girl. We didn’t drink it at home, but whenever I’d visit my Abuelita, there was always coffee brewing. My business is a tribute to her, the first entrepreneurial woman I knew, my Abuelita Clementina. As I grew older, local cafés became a meaningful part of my everyday life, but I wanted to make sure that passion stayed strong as I turned it into a business. With a background in management and sales in consumer goods, I combined that experience with a vision rooted in community, wellness and intention. Health is a big part of my life, so all our ingredients are organic, free from artificial dyes and sweetness, and our syrups are handcrafted. It hasn’t always been easy finding the clients who share my values, but I’ve learned to stand in my worth and stay true to what matters.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting from out of town, I’d start the day by taking her to my favorite cafe for delicious food and a great cup of coffee. Then we’d spend the afternoon at the beach with a packed lunch, soaking up the sun and catching up over iced cold kombuchas and sparkling waters. To end the day we’d enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant with a view of the city or head to a cozy spot with live music for a relaxed, memorable evening.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate the courage it took to start my coffee cart to my sister, Jacky. From the moment I shared my dream of launching a mobile coffee catering company, she held me accountable, calling every day for months to check in, asked what steps I was taking, and reminding me to keep moving forward. Her support never wavered. When it came time to build the cart and plumb the espresso machine, my partner Vincenzo became my right hand. From countless late-night night trips to Home Depot to meticulously learning the espresso machines engineering, he made sure every detail was just right.
Jacky and Vincenzo believed in me through every phrase of the journey. Their constant encouragement, especially during the moments when I felt hesitant to take the leap, gave me the strength to keep going.
