We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Monday Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, how does your business help the community?
I help all independent artists be heard, by playing their music on my internet radio Whatever68 Radio or promoting their shows and music on social media. I want to help all the artist worldwide, that I can.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I built/own/operate Whatever68 Radio. We help artist be heard worldwide, I have been doing this for 13 years starting off knowing nothing I am all self taught. No one would give me a live slot to promote all these great artists so I built my own platform, the beginning was rough but then I stopped drinking got sober and things got smother. Everyday is a challenge, but I like a challenge. The easiest thing is going out and finding new bands I love seeing live shows and chatting with the artists. I have learned to always be on guard and watch what people do, not what they say.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Go to ocean beach and check out the antique stores, and The Black, find some garage/estate sales, then for lunch head over to National City for some sushi or Raman at Hanaoka, for the night of course go see some indie bands at the Bancroft. While they are here we will also go to all the beaches and Dutch for some coffee.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
