We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey & Olivia Harris & Rakowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey & Olivia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Lindsey – I’ve never been afraid to start a new project or follow my dreams. My thought process behind starting my own business was along the lines of of “ooo this is a good idea… LET’S DO IT”! Every single one of us has great ideas… it’s those of us who take action, despite fears and reservations, that set ourselves apart as business owners.

Olivia – I always thought I’d live the corporate 9-5 life, but once I actually began living it I realized it wasn’t for me. When the idea for The Yoga Bus presented itself, I knew it was time to trust in myself and create the life I’ve always wanted – one of freedom and creativity. Everything just FELT right in that moment and I couldn’t be happier that I jumped at the opportunity to start a business that fuels my soul.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

The Yoga Bus is a mobile yoga studio with the mission of diversifying the yoga and wellness industries through inclusivity, accessibility and activism. Our mission stands us apart from other yoga studios and we are the first mobile studio in San Diego. We are so proud of our inclusive community. The feedback we receive from our guests is often about how welcome they feel and how friendly everyone is. We aren’t just a studio, we are a community of like-minded Good Humans and we’re excited about the future! We have big plans for our company including a brick-and-mortar space here in SD which will act as a community wellness center and yoga studio. From there, we have plans to expand along the West Coast and then Nationally!

How did you get where you are today?

We got where we are today with lots of execution, hard work and support from our community. Olivia quit her day job and is now focusing all of her time and energy into the business. Lindsey took what she knew from starting a previous business and applied it to TYB which helped speed up a lot of the start-up processes. Both of us being photographers with backgrounds in branding & marketing has been a huge advantage.

One of the biggest catalysts for our growth has been our strategy to collaborate with as many deliberate values-driven brands as possible. This has allowed us to rapidly increase brand visibility directly to our target demographic through cross promotion while supporting our favorite local brands! If you’d like to collaborate, send us a message at hello@theyogabus.co

Has it been easy to get where you are now? What are some of the challenges you’ve faced?

Lindsey – We’ve experienced so much flow in this business and a lot of it does just come really easily. Honestly, most of the challenges I’ve faced have come from my own limiting beliefs and/or being in a mental state that wasn’t in alignment with my goals. The biggest lessons I’ve learned so far : 1. I need to practice what I preach – I can’t nurture my business/ community if I don’t first nurture myself. SLEEP! EAT WELL! DO YOGA! lol Prioritize self care. Your business will thank you. 2. DELEGATE! Don’t try to do it all. Hire people who can do things better than you can, build a team of amazing humans and open up your time to do the things that inspire you! 3. Having a business partner to lean on/ celebrate with makes entrepreneurship a lot easier and a lot more fun! 4. Create a schedule. As someone who has always been scared of structure, this is something I struggled with forEVER. I’ve learned that having a schedule and weekly routines actually creates MORE freedom in my life. I’m still working on this but having a coach (shout out @kellycollinswellness) has been so helpful.

Olivia – From a personal perspective, building this business has always felt right, but it hasn’t always been easy. I’ve had to make a lot of personal life adjustments and push myself out of my comfort zone during the beginning stages of growing this business. I’ve had to shift the way that I thought I was going to live my life – through a “safer” and much more conventional route – and pushed myself to take leaps of faith and believe in myself to create the life of my dreams. I’m lucky to be a very adaptable, optimistic and hard-working person and because of this business I’ve grown in ways I never thought I would. The growth of The Yoga Bus has been nearly seamless and having a business partner has made it an even more incredible experience to share the highs and lows with. The biggest lesson I’ve learned in building this business is that by creating something with intention and purpose, having a clear vision and staying true to your values, everything will align and elevate your brand as it should, and the right people will always find you.

What’s one thing you want people to know about your brand?

We want the world to know that we truly stand by our hashtag #YogaForAll. We believe yoga is truly for everyone and that as a lifestyle and a practice it changes and improves people’s lives and overall way of life. Our mission is to change the landscape of yoga through diversity and inclusivity, and we will continue to push that mission in everything that we do!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

This shoutout is dedicated to Broderick Baldwin, our financial consultant/ Olivia’s Step-Dad. Thank you for investing so much time, energy and love into our dreams. Without your support and financial acumen we’d still be using our notes app instead of your (beautiful) Excel spreadsheets (;

Through you, we’ve realized how imperative it is to have someone on your team who believes deeply in your vision while providing a skillset that you, as the business owner, may not have. To new entrepreneurs: you don’t have to know how to do everything. Build a team of people around you can support you and elevate your vision. We hope that every new business owner can be so lucky to find someone like Broderick. We love you!
