Meet Lindsay Marty | Digital Marketing Expert for Law Firms

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Marty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in, Baraboo, a small, rural, town in Wisconsin. My 1980’s upbringing in a small town was exactly what you would expect. My sisters and I started working at our family’s restaurant at the age of 12, when we could get a work permit. My grandfather was a restaurateur who owned 19 iconic supper clubs throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. The work ethic I developed throughout my life, I largely attribute to my work in those restaurants. My mother was also an entrepreneur owning successful businesses throughout her life. So, I guess, you can say a strong work ethic and never give up attitude, runs in my blood line. I have taken so much of this knowledge and applied it to my own business and I truly believe that is what has made Above the Bar so successful.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Above the Bar Marketing (ATB) is a full service digital marketing agency that works exclusively with law firms. We work with our clients on website design, social media marketing, lead generation, tracking return on investment, reputation management and more. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide a truly custom program to each of our clients. The growth of their law firms is extremely important to us. There are many things that set us apart from our competition. One main aspect is our ability to provide our clients with the analytics and detail to determine the true return on investment of their marketing dollars. I worked for a large, national legal digital marketing company for several years before I started my own business. My experience with that company gave me the insight to understand what my clients needed but were not receiving. That was the major driver to start ATB. I launched ATB in January of 2020, 2 months before the pandemic officially began. The first year was definitely filled with a lot of learning but it has all been extremely fun and thrilling. I overcame each challenge by consulting with one of my colleagues in the industry. It was very helpful to have a built in network of individuals to work with right away. I want the legal world to know that my company always puts our clients first and our goal is for you to be successful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Well, the majority of my best friends live in my city (Madison, WI) and have since I can remember. If a friend did come to visit, here is where I would take them:

Monona Terrace – the view and a beer
Cento – my favorite restaurant in Madison
Madison Farmer’s Market – 2nd largest in the nation
The Baraboo Bluffs – winery tour
Devil’s Lake – hiking
Mirror Lake – kayak trip

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
At the risk of sounding too cliche, I owe a lot of my success to my husband. He has always supported everything I do. I am constantly coming up with new ideas that sound a little off the wall but he’s excited to give it all a whirl. He listens to all of my ideas and helps me brainstorm on any subject, even if he doesn’t understand it completely. In a nutshell, he let’s me spread my wings and fly. We have 3 small children and he is always a partner in everything we do and doesn’t get upset when there is something work related pulling me away. He supports my business and is the best husband and father to our children I could ever ask for.
