We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Kreighbaum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is TERRIFYING but worth all of that in business. Especially as an entrepreneur, without risk comes no reward. Just starting a job as an entrepreneur rather than a safe, consistent full time job is a risk in itself. Pushing myself out of my comfort zone in both my life and career has only gotten me greater rewards. I’ve grown as a person and it has helped me put a lot of parts of my life in perspective. If I didn’t risk the safety of a consistent income and schedule, I would not be the hardworking, disciplined owner of my own photography business. It’s the greatest thing that has happened to me in my professional life and I wouldn’t change a second of all the uncertain and terrifying times I’ve experienced due to risk.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe that my service sets me apart from other people in my field. I make it my priority to listen to exactly what the client has in mind for their product, business, or event. I pride myself on having excellent communication standards (timely!!!) & addressing anything the client may be worried about. My number one goal is to have HAPPY and REPEAT clients because they love not only my creativity and work, but my service as a business. It wasn’t easy to get to where I am today – yes it’s scary going out on your own as a new business, but I had to get over A LOT of hurdles emotionally to have the confidence and high standards that I do today. I overcame this by having an amazing group of supportive friends/peers, a few amazing mentors, & investing in workshops and seminars. The greatest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to LET GO OF YOUR EGO. Your ego will kill your business and prevent you from progressing more than anything else. I want the world to know that not only do I have a creative eye – I provide support throughout our working time together & after! We are all human & we thrive on connection. I want my clients and future clients to know that I am on their team – whether it’s for a product shoot, a wedding, an advertising campaign for your business, it doesn’t matter. I’m here to bring your vision to life & support you all the way through it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would make sure that we ate at all my favorite spots! Donna Jean for made-from-scratch hearty vegan pasta, Plumeria for amazing Thai, The Plot for the best vegan sushi, and Donut Bar for the strawberry shortcake donut! I would take him to Joshua Tree for desert exploring, Encinitas for beach hangouts, Palomar Mountain for forest hiking, and Ocean Beach for beach pier vibes & delicious food!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Chef Roy Elam of Donna Jean for taking a chance on me two years ago and letting me photograph his food – even though at that point I had only a few months of experience under my belt! From that point forward I knew that commercial & food photography was gonna be my THANG. I had a knack for it – and it was so FUN! I’ve shot for countless businesses, brands, and restaurants since then and I have Chef Roy to thank for letting me build up my portfolio with his beautiful dishes!
