We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Transitioning into business ownership and having a balanced work life was a bit of a struggle at first. I was used to structured working hours and off time. Suddenly I was in charge of making those hours, I was the only one that was going to hold myself accountable. I had to set boundaries with myself and others to see growth and productivity. I am still learning each day what is right for me, I listen to my body, to what it needs. Some days I am in my creative flow, motivated and energized and other days I need grounding and alone time. I believe this balance will be a constant change with the ebb and flow of life and opportunities.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Shade Collective is a San Diego based mobile, sunless tanning services using organic, eco certified and nutrient rich solutions. I was pushed by the unfortunate circumstances of 2020, after losing my job and wondering where to go next I knew it was time to start this dream of mine. I wanted to be a brand that people felt they could trust, a brand that made them feel safe and beautiful, a brand that they wanted to be a part of. When I began the opening process I knew I had to find solutions and products that were not only going to make you golden and radiant, they were actually going to be really good for your skin, packed with antioxidants and skin loving ingredients. I add CBD for those with skin conditions, hemp infused barrier lotions to protect dry areas, lavender body wipes to cleanse and aromatic setting powders to leave you feeling fresh and sticky free. My goal was to make this a beautiful experience for all. I am most proud of the way my clients light up after their session, the instant satisfaction of natural looking bronze skin without the damaging effects of prolonged sun exposure. I look forward to the connections I will make along the way and am grateful for the ones I have already made.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in San Diego there is never a shortage of places to go and things to see. I’d say maybe too many options! Lets say its a warm summer week we would have to hit at least a few farmers markets, OB on wednesday is my favorite, the energy is big with lots of interesting people to watch and things to buy. Trilogy Sanctuary in La Jolla is a must, rooftop aerial yoga followed by a long lunch at their vegan, organic cafe, I always end up getting one of everything. For a more relaxing kind of day we would go to Yu Spa on Convoy, a Korean day spa specializing in heat therapy and body scrubs, you could say I have a bit of an obsession with day spas. For food we would have to go to Little Italy, the hub for amazing eateries. Mission Beach for some day time drinks and boardwalk energy, Carlsbad day trip for some boutique shopping, candlelit yoga with The Yoga Bus, the list is honestly endless, we might need for then a week!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am lucky to have such an abundant amount of support from friends, family and entrepreneurs alike but there has been one person that was always been my cheerleader, somebody who has always pushed me to step out of the box, that person is my best friend Lindsey. She has always been there to reassure me that I can do anything I set out to do even when the self doubt and limiting beliefs came creeping in. She is a visionary, a leader and knows what she wants, I am truly lucky to have her on my team.
