We had the good fortune of connecting with Leonard Julian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leonard, what do you attribute your success to?
One of the most important factors behind my brand is, consistently providing high quality work. This means, I am communicating with my team and clients face to face every day. I am driving to the job sites everyday and being aware of any problems that can occur. I like to visit with my clients one on one.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sondance Painting, Inc. established in 1980 was created by myself, Len Julian in Long Beach, Ca. I started this businesses after being a PE teacher at Long Beach College. I would play volleyball in the local park, and noticed that I wanted to own property buildings. I started by purchasing my first apartment building, and then hired a crew to assist with painting.

Later, I kept the same crew and started networking. From then, we still have the same crew today with added family members, and my daughter Nicci and a Stella assist in the office.
I am very grateful to continue to do and teach.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would show them Laguna Beach, downtown Dana Point at the harbor. Harbor Grille restaurant is amazing! Beach walks and bike trails along the coast.
I would also take them to the South Coast plaza for fancy shopping, and Javier’s Newport Beach for a show of a dinner.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my parents for teaching me a hard work ethic at a young age. We did not have a lot of means, so it was important for me to work hard. Also, my first client and partnership with L’Abri Property Management. I have worked for them on projects annually for the past forty two years. The owner Ron Kollar , is a mentor I will always be grateful.

Lastly, my deceased wife Vallie Julian who assisted me with support, love, and hands on work with the business.
