Meet Laura Moore-Shay | Fitness Coach & IFBB Bikini Pro

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Moore-Shay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
One of my primary goals with More Athletics is to help women learn to not only become physically fit, but also become the most confident, happiest versions of themselves. The team is a community of supportive women from all walks of life, who support and care for one another. It’s been incredibly special to watch the women grow individually, but also in their friendships and bonds with one another. It’s almost like I woke up one day to this beautiful community of supportive, empowered women, and I want to give back. One of my plans for 2022 is offering financial need based scholarships for a spot on the team.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
One thing that is very important to me as a coach, is keeping each individual’s health in mind. Particularly for more extreme challenges like preparing for a bodybuilding competition, it is important to me as a coach to still keep the health of the athlete in mind. A more tempered, intentional approach to weight loss can help women better maintain hormonal balance while they are prepping for a show, and it also makes it easier to back out of a calorie deficit after a competition. I think there are many coaches out there that only think about winning, and don’t take into account the health and well-being of the person in front of them.
I am very excited to build my business that was just a side hustle until a few months ago. In the future, I am working to develop life coaching programs, and programs to help mentor fellow fitness coaches. The path to get here wasn’t easy, but it definitely was worth it. I worked a normal full-time job as a project manager for about 5 years while also coaching clients and competing myself as a bikini athlete. It meant making a lot of sacrifices and being very disciplined with my time, but it was well worth it to now be able to fully pursue my passions.
I want people to know that the brand and team (More Athletics/Team BeMore) are based around self-growth and personal improvement. We are all blessed with talents and gifts, and to be the happiest, most fulfilled versions of ourselves we should constantly strive to be our best each day. Being healthy and fit is just a piece of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I have friends coming to visit Orange County, I like to show them around where I live Costa Mesa, and also Newport Beach close by for ocean front dining, beaches, and shopping. Since I am very active, most friends would join me for a workout at UFC gym or Infinite Training Systems, both in Costa Mesa. For a quick snack after a workout I love BodyJuice in Costa Mesa for their speciality acai bowls, my favorite is the Oreo bowl with over 20 grams of protein! I also like Habana at the lab anti-mall in Costa Mesa for some yummy Cuban food, or Dory Deli in Newport Beach for a more casual atmosphere on the water, they have great sandwiches, burger, or my favorite their poke bowl. I also really love taking friends or visitors to Laguna Beach for a drive along the coast, or walk about on PCH. There are so many delicious restaurants in Laguna, and cute shops, you can easily spend a weekend just there!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my personal trainer Terry Hairston, I have been working with him for about 4 years now. I met him at one of the local bodybuilding shows, and he has helped me so much over the years to grow my upper body and become a better athlete!
