We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Dimmock-weatherly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what’s your definition for success?
The way I defined success is not by what is in my bank account, but by how many clients come back to me year after year, being able to see little ones grow up through my camera lens is probably one of the best things about my job. I have clients that I have worked with for over 10 years where I see them as a engaged couple at their wedding day in the hospital room with their newborn and now I’m taking yearly pictures of their children and they’re growing families, success is knowing that these families come back to me each year and trust that I am going to take images that will last a lifetime

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my photography career, honestly, just by taking pictures of my own kids. I feel like capturing the little moments in my own children allowed me to be able to capture moments for other families. I took my recreation background and made picture taking with little ones and families a lot more fun by making it a day of play versus a day of stress for not only the kids, but the parents. When your family gets in front of my camera, I want the world to see your family, having fun in intimate and engaging ways and not just posed standard pictures that anyone could take. I want you to look back at your images and say.” That was such a fun day”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being born and raised in San Diego I always forget that this is actually a destination that has amazing food, amazing beaches, and amazing places to visit but my number one place would have to be the beach town of San Diego. Starting all the way south in My hometown of imperial Beach I would move my way up through Coronado, I would stop at the iconic Hotel Del. I would then head over into Pacific Beach grab a burger at Hodad’s then I would definitely head up to Scripps. Check out the sunset and grab some fish tacos along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m not able to really pinpoint one organization or person that has helped me on my path, but what I can say is I just wanna give a shout out to all the other San Diego photographers that have inspired me Through their own images given me location, ideas, given me pose ideas, and those who have followed my career in photography and encouraged me with kind messages and words
The one person that I really can put my photography business in success on is my husband who has constantly encouraged me to follow my passion and supported me in ways that I don’t even think he understands as much appreciated.
