Meet Lara Lavery | Fragrance Content Creator & Olfactiv Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lara Lavery and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that life is a gamble, a Roulette if you will, And a big part of that are taking a chances and taking risks , which is very important because opportunities could only knock once and it would be a big loss if you miss that window. Always follow your gut after a complete thought about a big decision, especially if it’s something you are truly passionate about. I’ve taken this risks a few months back when I started making content about fragrances, a passion that I truly love and enjoy since I was young. I always have loved scents as it always takes me back to a certain memory, it gives me a chance to relieve a moment in time and evoke feelings of that certain memory, whether it be joy, pain, triumph, or even disappointment, which all are a part of us and our history as a person and made who we are as a whole in the present. I took the risk and started capturing and writing my odes to these potions and share them to people and have gotten great responses and even have caught the attention of of my favorite fragrance houses, which I felt was a huge accomplishment on my end as a newbie in the realm of content creating. I just started and all the way is up. On that note,”go against the grain” and “don’t play it safe”. Never try to fit a certain mold and be like everybody else. We humans are born to have our own individual identity, use that your advantage. You and what you do might not be for everyone, at the end of the day, there will be people that will be looking and listening to hear what you got to say and what you can do. Take a risk, and you might be surprised of the outcome, you don’t want to end up with the “what if’s” all because you didn’t take it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I review and make odes to fragrances to show my appreciation about the art of perfumery and educate and inspire new and upcoming enthusiasts and to tell my personal interpretation to everyone. What sets me apart is that the things that I write are based on my personal life experiences and how a scent has been a part of that. I don’t write fantasies or things from the imagination. And I create photos to evoke the feeling or vibe of the scent. You can can think of me as the Carrie Bradshaw of fragrances (lol)
The moment I’m most most proud of is I was able to be a part of PR lists of brands, like just to be recognized as one who’s thoughts they want to hear about a product is a milestone for me. The trust you build with these brands are so important. And it is also great to meet new people in the industry and community and share each other’s thoughts.
I started from encouragement from family and friends to express my creative and artistic side which I am truly grateful for. It wasn’t easy at first cause I feel like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. Like there are so many people out there like me doing the same thing, so I go against the grain and like that tiny fish, just kept swimming.
The biggest lessons I have learned in this business are that you can never please everyone, there will always be haters and jealously, and just be yourself. There’s a dark side to this business that you don’t want to be entangled in. Just keep doing you and inspire yourself.
I wan’t people to know about my brand, is the authenticity of everything that I put out there and that it comes from the heart. I would never set anyone astray for clout. Expect nothing but a true human sharing experiences and genuine interactions about their true passion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego has a lot of fun activities and sights to see,. My recomendation would be to visit Balboa Park, not only do they offer a beautiful scenery but The Museum of US is definitely a must. It tackles alot about San Diego, and alot about humans. Sunset Cliffs to view the beautiful sunset is also a must see. Mission Beach is definitely one to check out too if it was the summer to soak up the sun. And for food, one must come to Convoy to experience a wide verity of restaurants with a lot of Asian origins and would surely be a delectable treat. For night life, deffintely come to Flick’s and have a fun night in with your friends, it’s a great place to enjoy music and meet great people.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shutout to my husband Andrew, and bestfriends Mikee and Reign, for always believing in me and have pushed me to follow my true passion. They are the ones who. always have told me to follow my heart in pursuing this path and have their full support. I wouldn’t even have started this if it wasn’t for their love and encouragement, and listening to me blabbing about things related to it (lol) Thank you so so much. I truly cherish you guys standing behind me and for your encouragement! I love you guys!
