Meet Kung Pik Liu | Graphic Design & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kung Pik Liu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kung Pik, how do you think about risk?
Back in 2010, I felt stuck and unfulfilled in my job, yearning for something more. I took a risk and decided to start my own design business, despite having no prior business knowledge or connections. It was a daunting task, but I knew it was the only way to achieve my dream. The first few years were a struggle, filled with challenges and setbacks. However, I was determined to make it work and spent countless hours reading books on business and marketing. Finally, I landed a promising client, and with that, one lead to another. Although there were moments when I questioned my decision, I never considered going back to a full-time position. Through the ups and downs, I’ve gained knowledge, personal growth, and the satisfaction of owning my successes and failures. Today, I am grateful for the control and opportunities that come with running my own business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself a practical person, rather than a creative one, but I have a strong desire to improve things and make them meaningful. Persistence and my love for design have brought me to where I am today, even during challenging times. I believe that following your passion and purpose can help you overcome obstacles and ultimately lead to success. My advice is to never give up, keep pushing forward, and always keep your goals in sight.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to plan a road trip for someone visiting California, I would definitely recommend driving up Route 1 from Dana Point to Big Sur. It’s a scenic route where you can take your time to explore the beautiful beach towns and discover the stunning natural beauty that California has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Futur Pro Group run by Chris Do changed my life. If only I had discovered Chris Do and his community of content creators earlier, I could have saved so much time. His teachings on business skills for creatives are unparalleled and not found in traditional schooling. Moreover, the supportive community allowed me to grow and develop greater confidence in my work.
