Meet Kristopher Monterroso | Extroverted fashionista (non-mainstream)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristopher Monterroso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristopher, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Not taking no for an answer. I was told by many people to wait my turn that everything comes in time. Yet, with my military training and dedication to service I knew that there was a more efficient way to jumpstart my career for one I don’t have the luxury of waiting because I know that opportunities are right around the corner. You had to show initiative and willing to be humble and learn.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being raised by a man’s man, my father was a mechanic. So finding a way to relate to him was somewhat challenging. Growing up I lived for art. Painting and all things beautiful.
So when dad rebuilt a car, we connected. I saw his artisanal attention to detail and wanted to be like him in that aspect.
I’m can say I took and learned something from him with confidence. It was short lived as my parents divorced and I had to move away. So I rebelled and joined the military.
Little did I know, it would have been one of the best decisions in my life.
I served in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 and that was culturally invigorating. I had the opportunity to understand another religion and be tolerant of their practices. We are all just human beings on earth trying to make it with the tools our environment gives us.
As I travel through Europe in the Middle East, more fashion would captivate my eyes. And I knew that I found my niche.
Currently I’m trying to make a name for myself, my moral compass is to my boys. They need me now to be the best version of myslef. Hopefully as adults, they will come to me for advice and not be left without a father as many children have suffered without one.
Mine was taken away from me at the age of 16 when my father was murdered. And left a hole in my heart, and I wanted to be a better than him. Ideas would overflow my neurons to captivate my young audiences.
Thus far, I just pray they don’t forget me. Remember me. (Love daddy).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Istanbul, Turkey for the Middle East.
Bangkok, Thailand for Asia
Anywhere in Scandinavian lands!!! Skol!
South America, Colombia for sure.
Brazil is still on the list for sure!!!
North America, let’s keep Mexico because my ancestors the Maya are there still protecting our pyramids and traditions.
Africa: I’m down for South African cuisine or anywhere safe and fun!
Yet the good ole USA : I have to visit all States and common wealths! When I retire for sure 🤣.
With me, you never know what you going to get. So always have your passport ready when you come visit me!
So long as we have good food and laughs I’m always down!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank the higher power of God, although I may not know him/her/ they personally, I believe we have purpose and should be tolerant of a creator.
To my mother, you were the foundation that paved the way on what I wanted to be in life.
The US Navy for helping me build myself as a young adult and helping me attain a pension so that I may pursue a career.
Lastly, I wanted to thank myself! For getting up every morning, depressed or not and trying to live my life. Trials and obstacles will test you, what way will I advance today?
