We had the good fortune of connecting with Krish Trece and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krish, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was born in a city not far from Barcelona, known as Girona. This city has a rich artistic history as it is known for being the hometown of the legendary Salvador Dali. You can imagine its creative legacy. Growing up in such an inspiring setting allowed me to be immersed in his surreal world, where the boundaries of creativity seemed to vanish, and where the arts were held in the highest regard. I loved visiting art museums, going through classical art books and drawing during my free time. I’m deeply appreciative that I was exposed to the art world at a young age. As I got older, my fascination with art only grew, and I eagerly explored new artists.

My first steps as an artist were in the illustration field but then my journey into tattooing began when I turned 18. During a visit to the vibrant city of Madrid, which I later decided to call home, changed my life completely. While there, I embarked on my artistic path in the heart of the city’s illustration scene and got my very first tattoo. This experience opened my eyes to an entirely different art form, one where everything I loved was in this medium full of creativity, cultural richness, and intricate techniques. After a lot of hard work and consistency, I was able to become the tattoo artist I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I specialize in the Neo Traditional and Neo Romantic style. It draws inspiration from classical art, nouveau aesthetic, nature, the romance of history, and myths. It’s characterized by ornate beauty, fauna and/or powerful female portraits all set amidst botanical elements. My style is a celebration of nature’s strength and purity and all represented in my own personal warm, muted and earthy color scheme.

I’ve been dedicated to the art of tattooing for more than a decade, and I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences it has brought me. From being a sponsored artist, to traveling as a guest artist and participating in conventions both nationally and internationally, I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my work on a global scale and receiving recognition for my designs. While this journey hasn’t been easy and required a lot of hard work, it’s immensely rewarding to see my dreams gradually becoming a reality. I’m profoundly thankful for all those who have supported me and provided opportunities for me to evolve as an artist.

As tattoo professionals, we must constantly create unique pieces on a daily basis. Therefore, it’s crucial to dedicate time to learning and growing as an artist. Never stop learning, be curious, and embrace new techniques. These factors positively shape our profession and define you as a creative individual.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Just to name a few options, we’ll start with breakfast in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, setting the tone for our adventure. After this we take a walk through Domino Park, where we’ll be captivated by the breathtaking city skyline and immerse ourselves in the vibrant street art that adorns the area. As we walk across the Williamsburg Bridge and into Chinatown, where we’ll indulge in delicious snacks and visit one of the beautiful Buddhist temples, all while capturing the essence of this vibrant and culturally rich neighborhood through our cameras. We move up to grab a drink at The Stonewall Inn and acculturate over its powerful history and then stroll along Washington Square Park to check out the new artists showcasing their last pieces! We can’t miss a walk down the High Line, eventually reaching Chelsea Market, a culinary haven offering a multitude of options and styles to satisfy our appetites.
Our exploration continues with a visit to the iconic Met, where we can lose ourselves in classical art and history. While we’re close and inspired, in Central Park, we’ll uncover its hidden gem, Shakespeare Garden, a serene spot to unwind and perhaps sketch some of the beautiful florals and botanicals that surround us.
Finally, we’ll conclude in Harlem, savoring the lively markets, indulging in delicious cuisine, and enjoying the soulful sounds of live music. The options for discovery in this vibrant, cultural and creative city I call home are truly infinite.
