We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiana Valdivieso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic/creative career because, firstly, I love the arts and all the form it comes in. When I began crafting jewelry, I found that it inspired the wearer to feel beautiful and empowered. Because it was so fulfilling to know that people wear my jewelry as an expression of their love for the arts, I continued to create. Additionally, this career has allowed me to develop a balance in my life as I pursue a college degree and work two other jobs.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a current senior at Point Loma Nazarene University studying Education with a concentration in Child Development. I will be graduating this Spring 2021, and starting summer will start my teaching credentials (& maybe a masters program). Besides owning Vieso, I work at a local small business called Shop Good which is a clean beauty and wellness store, and tutor/babysit on the side. A challenge for me has always been finding balance because of school and multiple jobs. Finding ample time for friends/family while trying to squeeze in some self care is something I am always conscious of. I believe that’s what builds Vieso. I am no different than any of you! Just trying to fulfill all the things in life that I have passions for.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh how I love this question! Let’s start with all my favorite food places: Plumeria (vegetarian thai food), Tacos El Gordo (a taco fan must), Hodads (the burger of your dreams, vegetarian options too), Liberty Station Public Market (a mini Anaheim Packing District), Northside Shack (acai and smoothies, yum!), and Mike Hess (more tacos! +drinks). Some of my favorite places to walk around to simply enjoy the scenery would be Balboa Park, and Coronado. I would also have a beach day at Imperial Beach, a picnic at Kate Sessions Park (with a charcuterie board + wine), and Sunset Cliffs for sunset. Lastly, farmers markets are a must! My favorites are in Little Italy and Ocean Beach. And for some bonuses, we’d hit a lot of thrift stores and Starry Lane for some vegan pastries!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to recognize my family and friends for always supporting Vieso. They all go above and beyond to continue cheering me on through it all. I would also like to thank my sweet customers. From any like, comment, share, or follow on Instagram to every purchase, gift, and custom order. The amazing support from my customers has assured me that my small business can thrive through the greatest challenges. Lastly, for a more personal shoutout, my sweet friend Madison who has recently taken some tedious tasks off my hands and some great plans for Vieso’s future.
