We had the good fortune of connecting with Keven R and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keven, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been cosplaying, making costumes, and going to cons for the past 10 years. Only recently have I realized that this is truly my passion. I’ve always thought that one day I would be working for myself, leaving my day job behind. This past year I decided to take that leap and begin my journey. I knew I wanted to cosplay and somehow make a living but I didn’t know how or where to even start. Currently, I am taking orders for cosplay commissions, selling my art, and prints on my website! I’m hoping to expand and find new avenues in which I can grow my business in the new year.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m always excited about learning more, growing, and perfecting my craft. I’m a self taught seamstress, so with every project I take on I learn a new technique. I think that is my favorite part of this job! I have certainly come a long way from where I started, but I still have so far to go. It wasn’t easy by any means, but my passion for the characters I portray helped me overcome any frustrations I may have had during the journey. One really important lesson I’ve learned, and sometimes still struggle with, is comparing my art to others. It’s easy to bring yourself down when you see someone else you admire doing the same character. We have to remember that everyone’s interpretation of art is totally different and unique! That’s definitely something I strive to share with my audience. As a brand, I want to be a positive reminder to all cosplayers, artist, and anyone who creates, to remember their art and craft is unique and special. Never stop growing!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My trip to San Diego was absolutely perfect! Prior to San Diego Comic Con, I didn’t know much about the area. Planning the trip was difficult, as there are so many places to choose from! I ended up finding a lovely hotel on Coronado island and we took a ferry to the convention center! That was definitely a highlight of the trip. The temperature was perfect, the convention center was huge with so much to do in the surrounding era, and it was a trip I’ll never forget!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so lucky to have such supportive friends, family, and followers! Without their constant encouragement I would have never gotten this far. I also love being part of a cosplay community filled with kind, encouraging, and talented individuals that I constantly look up to.
