Meet KerryLynne McHugh | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with KerryLynne McHugh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KerryLynne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For as long as I can remember, I have loved acting. I was far too insecure in high school to even try out for the plays. So part of why I pursue this and have continued to is for her. The high school version of me. I often think of that when I have an audition or am participating in a showcase. How the younger version of me would be so proud.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been an actress for half of my life now! I absolutely cherish this art. It was during the pandemic that I came to respect it in a whole new way. When we were all home and quarantining, it were the artists that kept us company. The shows we binged and movies we watched for the first time or favorites we re-watched. It was this proof of something I had known in my heart for ages. That this path and this art is valuable and noble.
I wouldn’t say that anything about this path is easy. But that’s okay, too. I don’t believe it’s meant to be easy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
They call San Diego America’s Finest City and I couldn’t agree more! There is so much to do and see! I always bring visitors to Coronado. It’s so gorgeous. I also love La Jolla Cove. I highly recommend Snooze for brunch! There’s 3 locations in San Diego. Another favorite spot is Trilogy Sanctuary. It’s in La Jolla and offers a beautiful view as you enjoy your meal.
Balboa Park is so vast and there is so much to do just in that park! One of my go-to’s there are the International Cottages.
I also love the San Diego Zoo! That’s world famous for a reason!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for the abundance of great teachers I’ve had throughout my years studying this craft. My first beloved teachers in New York City; Pamela Moller-Kareman, Richard Southern and Julia Carey. And of course, my all-time favorite teacher also happens to be my husband; Carey Scott. He’s the founder and instructor at the Rehearsal Room Acting School in San Diego. I’ve been studying there for a long, long time. Being married to an acting teacher gives me a very special behind-the-scenes view of how much goes into it all. We owe so much to our teachers.
I owe my family the biggest shoutout of all! I’d love a special shoutout to my father. I feel so eternally grateful to have his support in this unconventional artist’s life I chose. In all these years, he’s never once suggested I give up and has been my biggest fan since Day One. My husband; Carey, is the love of my life and my best friend. Him and our two kids – and our dog! – mean more to me than they’ll ever comprehend.
