Hi Kay, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My ultimate professional goal is to make a significant philanthropic impact in the Black community through my skills and expertise in grant writing and donor procurement. By helping non-profit organizations secure funding to expand their missions, I aim to empower and uplift individuals and communities. Additionally, I curate empowerment events that promote representation and highlight the importance of diversity and includmsion. Through these efforts, I hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a grant writer and donor procurement specialist, I help non-profit organizations secure funding to expand their missions and serve their communities. In addition, I curate empowerment events that promote representation and highlight the importance of diversity and social justice. My goal is to make a significant philanthropic impact in the Black community and to leave a lasting legacy of positive change.
One thing that sets me apart from others in my field is my ability to connect with the communities that I serve. I have a deep understanding of the needs and challenges facing the Black community, and I am committed to working with non-profit organizations that share my values and goals. Additionally, my background in social work has given me a unique perspective on the importance of community-based initiatives and the role of non-profits in promoting positive change.
Getting to where I am today professionally was not easy. Like many people, I faced challenges and obstacles along the way. However, I learned to overcome these challenges by staying focused on my goals and seeking out support and mentorship from others. I also learned to be resilient and to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning.
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is the importance of building meaningful relationships with others. Whether it’s connecting with potential donors, collaborating with non-profit organizations, or working with members of the community, I believe that building strong relationships is essential to achieving lasting and meaningful change.
Overall, I want the world to know that I am committed to using my skills and expertise to make a positive impact in the world. Whether it’s through my work as a grant writer and donor procurement specialist, or through my involvement in community-based initiatives like Spring Steam Resource and Career Fair, I am dedicated to promoting positive change and creating a more just and equitable society

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would want to show them all the best that San Diego has to offer. We would start with a trip to Mount Helix, which offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding landscape. We would take in the stunning scenery and snap some photos before heading to our next destination.
Next, we would visit Sunset Cliffs, which is one of my favorite spots in the city. The natural beauty of the cliffs and the ocean is truly breathtaking, and I always feel a sense of peace and tranquility when I’m there. We would spend some time exploring the area, taking in the sights and sounds of the ocean, and perhaps even doing a little bit of hiking.
For dinner, I would take my friend to Cannonball, which is a fantastic restaurant located right on the beach. The food is incredible, and the views of the ocean and the sunset are absolutely stunning. We would enjoy a delicious meal and some cocktails while watching the sun dip below the horizon.
Throughout the rest of the week, I would want to show my friend all the fun and exciting things that San Diego has to offer. We might spend a day at Balboa Park, checking out the museums and gardens, especially Fleet Science Center. We might also spend an afternoon brunching and checking out community events to shops with local vendors.
Overall, there is so much to see and do in San Diego, and I am always excited to share my favorite spots with others. Whether it’s taking in the breathtaking views from Mount Helix and Sunset Cliffs, enjoying live music at Cannonball, or exploring all the city has to offer, I am always thrilled to show my friends the best that San Diego has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For me, my shoutout would go to several groups and individuals who have played important roles in my journey. First and foremost, I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my community. As someone who is committed to promoting representation and empowerment, it’s clear that the community has played a significant role in shaping my values and goals.
I would also like to recognize the importance of mentors in my life. From providing guidance and advice to offering support and encouragement, my mentors have been instrumental in helping me navigate my professional journey.
Last but not least, I would like to give a special shoutout to my mom. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her support.
