Meet Katie Bogue Miller | Cofounder, Love Goodly, Vegan Activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Bogue Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur, in fact this is my 4th start-up–so it’s in my blood! It’s hard to work for someone else after that long. For Love Goodly, we wanted to take the risk to start something that helped people, animals and the planet. It was a tall order but well worth the hustle. Not only do we help women make healthy choices when it comes to their skincare, but everything is always cruelty free, nontoxic and a portion of each of our subscription boxes goes to an animal advocate charity.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Love Goodly, is the leading nontoxic subscription box for nontoxic and cruelty free beauty. We have just head our 10th year anniversary, so as you might figure we were among the first subscription boxes. A LOT of hustle and grit got us here. Being open to risks and trial and errors. Nothing every goes as planned! Also, having a mission- to help women lead healthier lives helps us stand a part. Following my passion as a vegan for the animals is what makes me keep going. A voice for the voiceless rather. Activism comes in many forms including promoting, founding and running a vegan centered business. At our heart, our business model is really based on kindness to all. It’s really important for me do something meaningful and with purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m an Eastsider, so Hollywood, Silverlake, Pasadena, Glendale and DTLA are my stomping grounds! Love Goodly’s first and amazing office loft was in the Arts District DTLA, so I love taking out-of-towners to that area. Zinc has amazing food (and wine– this might be a theme with my friends and me) and my favorite is to walk around looking at the new shops, graffiti and the impromptu photo shoots on the sidewalks that never disappoint. We would dip out to Weho for Gracias Madre or Crossroads, both amazing vegan and plantbased restuarants and do a little shopping down Melrose. After that we would hit a band/ show at the Troubadour. Since we wouldn’t want to drive home, we would grab a room at the Mondrain and lounge at the pool the next day. Flore in Silverlake are the best vegan sandwiches in the city then we would hike up to Griffith Park, there is a sense of peace at the observatory, plus the bonus of the Hollywood sign.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my parents– who let me go to fashion school after college instead of law school, and my brother Zack, who is a serial entrepreneur (and a lot more successful ha) who inspires me everyday. My sisterhood at Love Goodly, Justine Lassoff and Nicole Bugante and Novica for taking a little chance on Love Goodly in acquiring us. Also my husband, Troy, who has to put up with my entrepreneurial spirit and odd hours. My kids are the best subscription box packers there are. It has always been a big deal to me to model a career for my kids doing anything you set your mind to.
