We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelin Fast and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katelin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Never one to sit idly by, I have always been someone who loves a good project and the satisfaction of creating something myself. The challenge of making a plan, learning new skills and experiencing the benefits gives me purpose. Whether I’m engaged in home renovations or a simple craft project, I love improving a home and lifestyle for myself and my clients.

As a mom, I have struggled with exhaustion and a seemingly endless to-do list but embracing organization in my home lets me decompress and recharge. Time at home should allow families to connect, relax and make memories. While home organization may not seem very impactful, the benefits can improve family relationships, save time for everyone and lead to a healthier lifestyle.

When I started my company, my goal was to help families by creating beautiful and functional spaces. Every client has presented new challenges and pushed me to grow in my skills as an organizer. I get to take on a variety of projects that keep me excited and motivated. I am extremely grateful to my clients who have trusted me to guide them on their organizational journey and I cannot wait to see what lies ahead in the future.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I started my company I did not have a clear idea of how I could incorporate design services beyond closet designs. Now that I’ve had time to evaluate all of the needs my clients may have, I am better able to strategize my offerings to accommodate them.

Because I have my degree in interior design, I am able to incorporate that within my home organization. Every project is meant to result in a highly functional space that matches the client’s style and is impeccably designed. Many clients require space plans and furniture recommendations allowing me to expand my offerings to better serve them. I have also added staging services for realtors and clients who need to have a home decluttered and improved before hitting the market.

That said, while home organization can be geared to creating a beautiful home, we help busy families tackle their disorganization so they can improve relationships and reduce stress. Whether our clients are facing a move, life change, or just craving order in their home, we are here to help guide them from chaos to calm. When everything has a place, life is easier to enjoy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is filled with so many remarkable places. While it’s a highly visited park I would take any visitor to hike along Torrey Pines State Park. There is nothing like being on cliffs above the ocean and climb down to the beach.

For an amazing meal, we would venture to Peohe’s in Coronado. Not only is there a stunning view of the city, but the menu is loaded with delicious meals. We would walk around Hotel Del Coronado and spend some time on the warm sand.

We would spend another day in La Jolla walking around downtown, visiting shops and checking out the Cove. If we wanted a laid back meal we would visit Duke’s La Jolla or for fine dining we would visit George’s at the Cove.

For a mellow day at the beach we would head to Warm Waters in Carlsbad where the surf is smaller, the crowds thinner and the cliffs are picturesque. While in Carlsbad, we would enjoy lunch at Fresco Cantina for some South American cuisine and dinner at Blue Ocean for incredible sushi. We would be sure to visit Rebel Villa also in Carlsbad Village for some bohemian gifts.

We would spend time driving the streets of Cardiff admiring the architecture and design of the homes. We couldn’t leave without seeing the Cardiff Kook. Nectarine Grove in Encinitas would serve for a perfect breakfast or lunch spot followed by us walking the streets of downtown Encinitas for some retail therapy.

We would be drawn to the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego for a Padres baseball game at Petco Park, some amazing atmosphere and an enticing meal at Union Kitchen and Tap or Rustic Root.

If we needed more time at the beach we would also head to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas or Terramar in Carlsbad for the tide pools.

A visit to the San Diego Zoo and the Balboa Park museums is always a fun idea if there is something of interest.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband Sandy has been instrumental in supporting me through the formation and growth of my business. I am so grateful to the community of Hera Hub and particularly Hera Hub Carlsbad. As a business accelerator and networking group, I have gained advice, knowledge and training in all aspects of my business. I am currently scaling my company and this would not be possible without this group of female entrepreneurs supporting me. Hera Hub also introduced me to my favorite business book, Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller; this book gives such easy to understand ideas of how to successfully market your company.
