Meet Katarina Kostic | Climate change and sustainability consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katarina Kostic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katarina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to do good, to help other people and other species. That’s why FROOF is a climate company and offers climate solutions based on care. Because it’s missing, especially in business environments. The situation worldwide is dire, all lives are precious, to keep doing business as usual.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an educator, I teach people what to eat and how to care for themselves because we are all ecosystems made of microbial and human cells that during the evolution learned to live together and cooperate. We are majestic expressions of symbiosis, all of us.. Not just humans, but all multicellular organisms. So I tell my clients that when we eat we should think about all other species that make us humans: bacteria, yeasts, viruses… and eat for them too. That makes me proud. FROOF makes me happy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh…. I live in Barcelona, I am lucky. We would start at Pyrenees and roll slowly down to Andalusia. There are some wonderful permaculture projects all over Spain and beautiful old villages that are now being repopulated. We would go hiking, meet people and talk with them, try and buy their produce.. If we had enough time, and for example in that moment would be an autumn, would take them to the special place in Sierra de Cuenca (mountain range) to fall in love with it…. Situated between Madrid and Valencia, people from here usually say Cuenca is nowhere.. but that small town has a mountain like no other… it smells of lavender and thyme and I have never seen so many and so many different mushrooms anywhere else.. like in fairytales.. thats how those mountains are. If you love mushrooms and smell of the forest in summer, you should go there!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is a group like no other. It’s called Flip the Script, an online group of creatives from all over the world, coming together in the plain pandemics to help and support each other in our projects. We listen to each others, we try to understand and help and we are very good in flipping each others scripts. Marvellous things come out of it. I am grateful to have that wonderful group of people (that I have never actually met in person) in my life. They’ve changed my pandemics and they were there when my company was still just a lovely idea. And they are still in my life. We meet every second Thursday. Lovely and super talented people.
