We had the good fortune of connecting with Kasey Superstar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kasey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began SuperStar Consulting when really, I had been working in the field of Special Needs for over 10 years. You see I had been involved on a non-profit board, Autism Society San Diego. After the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder hit my own doorstep in 2006 with my oldest son, Elijah! One of my roles with Autism Society San Diego was hosting support group meetings and I crushed it at support. Month after month families were coming in and begging for direction and they were lost left feeling discouraged.

Over a decade, I knew that I had the answers to their challenges and there was no paycheck involved, just clean support to move them to where they needed to be for progress in their loved ones life. Afterall, every life matters. Progress for a brighter tomorrow and hope that life can get better from the challenges Special Needs can bring.

So, I stepped up to the plate leaving my position at a clinic to begin the work I felt in my heart I should be doing. Supporting families impacted with ID/DD, just like my very own family. You see, the stepping stones of my life brought me to a place that I knew I had the skillset and experience to help families THRIVE!

What should our readers know about your business?
SuperStar Consulting represents people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the highest capacity. Working with the Regional Center system (State of Ca) to make sure the proper supports are in place to gain skills, working towards independence. The goal is for someone to be able to be safe, but as independent in their life as they can be.

We are always looking for the right program, staff, vocational training and social activities that can help promote progress in the lives we are so blessed to support. Never does a day go by where I don’t feel grateful and proud of the work we are doing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would be really horrible at visiting the city, but we could go to The Kings house for a BBQ, eat lunch with GMoney, hit up the Beach with Nikki and watch adaptive Surf Lessons or go to The Horse Connection and have a picnic and ride a horse with a therapeutic instructor. At the end of the day I would say…let’s go have Wine at D’Vine Path and enjoy our time together. BTW, that wine is award winning and would have been completely grown and cultivated by individuals with ID/DD. Basically stated Special Needs, it’s my life.

My son would say you must ride Go-Karts at K1 Speed and eat at American Hero where he works!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
