We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Boissonneau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been into creating things to give my loved ones. I used to make feather earrings and wooden beads bracelets as a kid. And then one day I was like why don’t I sell the stuff I craft. Give a little part of me and good energy to others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I do have a day job as a chef, so my whole life revolves around creating something to make someone feel something.
It can be hard putting my business first. I can get very discouraged and think what I make is not good enough and I have to just focus on my day job since I have a culinary degree. But then I vend at events and get such positive feedback on all my jewelry and hand panted items. What pushes me forward is also etsy reviews I have received telling me they can feel the positive energy and love in my items. My shop slogan has always been “witchy things made by a witch.” It’s cheesy but it’s true. This is my craft, my “magick,” that I am sharing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in little Rhode Island. It would be a sin to come here and not check out at least one of the beaches. My favorite is the Breachways in Charlsetown. The waves are nice, and water doesn’t have the nasty red tide the Newport beaches have. The whole state has really amazing food of all kinds. We have weiners all the way, and our state drink of coffee milk which is like chocolate milk but made with coffee syrup. Dels Lemonade is perfect on a hot day with a pretzel stick shoved in it. You cannot drink them through a straw though! For the best burgers and beer, go to Mews Tavern in Wakefield, and I promise I am not saying that just because I used to work there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad. He has always supported me and encouraged me to keep going.
