Meet Julian Hakim | President

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian Hakim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me it works its way backwards. It starts with something that I want or would like to be able to go to then I build it and find a way to make it profitable. Most of the ideas are just that, an idea. I don’t approach each project with a business mindset until after its open. Its unconventional and risky, but I believe if things that are well done they will be successful.

What should our readers know about your business?
It takes a lot of hard work to start something these days. More often than not we become discouraged from pursuing an idea once we learn just how much work its going to take to get it going. Once in a while you win the lottery and are able to launch something without hardly working but that is rare and should not be expected. Secondly the work never stops. We are always working hard to maintain consistency and improve. At times with success we become complacent and take the foot off the pedal but for me it should be the opposite.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in California for a reason so I would head outdoors. I live in downtown San Diego so walking or running along the bay is always relaxing and fun. If I’m in the mood I’ll grab the ferry to Coronado and do the walk or jog over there then come back to downtown. For lunch, I’ll get in the car and head to Himitsu in La Jolla. There’s a super chill patio and amazing donburi’s (bowls with sashimi over rice). Afterwards little Italy for drinks is a good idea. That sounds like a good day.
