Meet Julia Hoadley | Model & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Hoadley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My balance changed significantly after having my daughter. I have been modeling since I was 15, and due to the nature of my work, I had to focus mainly on myself for most of my adult life. Of course having a child completely changes one’s priorities, but my situation was an extreme version of that – Mabel was born right at the start of Covid, the very week everything shut down. So for two years after her birth, we were forced to completely slow down, and I wasn’t able to work at all. While it was a terrifying time in many ways, I’m grateful for having that time with my husband and daughter, as it brought us even closer together. I started modeling again right after Mabel turned two, and while I was worried about how I would find this mystical ‘balance’ I have actually found it quite possible to attain. My focus is so much less on myself, and rather on the overall happiness of my family, that it’s become much easier to say ‘no’ to things. I am infinitely more grateful for my relationships with the people I work with, and for the time I do get to have away shooting, which frankly feels like a refreshing break. It’s also very important to me for my daughter to see me working hard and achieving my goals, my biggest hope is to inspire her to be successful, independent, and to nurture her creativity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Goods in Carlsbad – always the first place I take visitors for the best donuts in San Diego and a coffee.
Communal Coffee and Revolution Roasters – two caffeine musts in Oceanside.
Jeune et Jolie – the most gorgeous place for a romantic dinner with truly incredible food.
Campfire – another Carlsbad dinner favorite, such a fun vibe and impeccable service.
Vaga at Alila Marea Beach Resort – stunning views overlooking the beach. Perfect for a sunset drinks, but we also to come here for a family breakfast.
Del Mar Plaza – lots of food and drink options, fun vibe and ocean views. We love walking to the beach from here as well.
Solana Beach – so beautiful and my favorite with kids. Usually not super crowded and walkable to restaurants after a long a beach day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my Shoutout to my first ever agent in NYC and longtime friend Marcos Olazabal. We met when I first moved to the city at 17 and signed with Elite Models, and he looked after me for many years. We had an immediate connection since both of us are from Seattle, and we got to see quite a lot of the world together through fashion. Some of the happiest memories of my early career have been with Marcos, and I’m so proud of the incredible work he is currently doing with his own modeling agency as well as the El Centro de la Raza social organization in Seattle.
