We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordyn Schutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordyn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Hello, my name is Jordyn Schutz and I go by ExxKoi. I’ve decided to pursue an artistic career because I’ve always been passionate to the sound of music. Music is a gift and it made me who I am today. If it weren’t for my older brother Jared Vargas then I may have never sought out taking it as far as I did now. I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made and it’s amazing to bring my ideas to life. I hope to be in it for the long run and see where it takes me, thank you to everyone who listens and supports me!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Jordyn Schutz, I am a 21 year old trans woman and music artist from Orange County, California. I think what separates me the most from others, is my personality. I’m genuinely one of a kind. The other thing that separates me from others is my uniqueness. I definitely feel like I’m not just anyone and anyone couldn’t be me whether it comes from looks or sound. Another is my purpose when it comes to music. I don’t do it for anything than letting my brother live through me and carrying on his dreams. It’s been a few years to get where I am when I originally started in late 2021 but I’m only getting started. Financially, I’ve paid out of pocket and on my own for all my equipment, beats, cover arts, vocal mixing, vocal mastering and plugins. Thankfully, I had only some good mutuals that helped me along the way. Others, I would say not so much. Upon joining a collective back in 2022-2023, I met some interesting people who all had the same dream of being a big artist and performing for life. I flew to Texas to my first show with some of them. While performing was fun and I met some nice people afterwards, I would not recommend flying to another state to meet a stranger you met through music and stay in a bnb with them. In the end, I became good friends with the people I’ve met but some people that don’t really know me have only had the intent of using my voice or money, and not being respectful to me. In the music scene, it’s really full of people that are in it for themselves. People step on others to reach the top and thus, I’ve lost way too many people I thought I could count on. I overcame this by staying true to myself and not working with just anyone. It’s like business after all. I really want the world to know what kind of person I am and try to be. Most people can agree that I’m really nice or genuine. I’m all for building a wholesome community and spreading love. When I was younger, I didn’t have much, friends included. Growing up lonely gave me a lot of creativity and wishful thinking. I was inspired to also be the person that others needed. No matter where I am, I am here for you. I’d also say I wouldn’t be here now if it weren’t for my brother Jared Vargas. I hope to some day create an album about him. I’d name it “Evander” his middle name. I also have Evander tatted on my face so I wouldn’t forget.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot in the city is my home, to be truthful. Everything I need is right in my room. When I go out, I would probably recommend Oceanside beach or see a venue in Los Angeles. I’m currently an avid fan for sushi, there’s a nice sushi place down in Oceanside. I used to take my friends there frequently and pay for them. In my opinion, I have the most fun observing the scenery, rollerblading or skateboarding with music in my ears. You probably won’t see me out much but I’m usually skating if I’m outside. The beach is one of my favorite places to visit, you’ll love it there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Mostly everyone in my family is musically inclined and talented! My grandma was an amazing singer. My mother Shandra Crymes who runs her own business “www.elevatenow.net” could play violin and sing. My oldest brother Chris Crymes could rap, dance, and play piano. My older brother Spencer Crymes could sing and play guitar. I honestly have to shoutout my brother Jared Vargas. He was a man of many talents and the reason why I do this. He could skateboard, many styles of dance, sing, play guitar, write his own songs and poetry, was incredibly good at games and was an amazing drawing artist. He even tried his hand at tattooing. He inspires me because in his journey in life, anything he wanted to achieve he would make it possible. He was authentically himself, he wore whatever he wanted to and he experimented into whatever he thought was fun and mastered it. He didn’t let anything stop him. Not a single person would discourage him and he would’ve never gave up on learning new skills or perfecting his craft.
