Meet Jonathan Young | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success is putting clients first and treating them like gold. We strive to understand their needs and motivations, which lets us meet and exceed their expectations.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets us apart is the authenticity of our photos. We photograph families and couples in a natural way, so nothing is overdone or ill-fitting. This lets us show true happiness and subtle moments that would get ironed out with a cookie-cutter approach.
Before going out on our own, we apprenticed for other photographers in New York, which laid a solid foundation of craft and experience. We started our business right when the Great Recession hit, but we grew quickly by delivering beautiful photos and having top-tier customer service.
We’re a husband and wife photography studio. 95% of our photography was focused on weddings until we had our first daughter in 2015. Suddenly, we needed to diversify our offerings to get more weekends back for our own family. Now we have a healthy mix of family and wedding photography, which makes for a stronger business and family life.
That diversification helped us when Covid hit, and most of our weddings were canceled and postponed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For the South Bay of LA I’d take my friend for hikes along the Palos Verdes coast, dinner overlooking the ocean at Nelson’s, and beers at Brouwerij West.
We’d try to get some surfing in at Bluff Cove. The burgers at Truxton’s are great as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my parents, Steve and Marlene Young, who instilled in me the values of commitment, hard work, and kindness. They’re very generous with their time and have given back a lot to the community.
With their example in mind, I’ve become a mentor to some younger photographers and enjoy helping to develop their skills.
