We had the good fortune of connecting with Joel Greig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joel, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Growing up in New Jersey with my family was an incredible experience. I was fortunate to be adopted into such a loving home; my parents were great role models who taught me the importance of hard work and dedication. They gave me so many wonderful opportunities, and I am forever thankful for the commitment they showed in raising me. I am determined to make them proud every day and to live by the same values they instilled in me.

My father owned his own business, and for most of my childhood, he worked six days a week. Over the years, I helped him during the summers and on weekends, and it was during these times that he taught me the importance of doing a job well and never taking shortcuts. I saw firsthand how attention to detail and perseverance can lead to success, and I strive to practice those same values in my own life.

My parents have always inspired me to be creative and pursue my dreams. Throughout the years, I kept writing and producing content. At times, I felt my work was not good enough, but I persevered and, eventually, published my first book. Thank You: A Gift of Gratitude is a journal that you can complete over time and then present to someone special in your life as a way of expressing your gratitude. It is a creative take on traditional journaling.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After being discharged from the Marine Corps due to injury, I was looking for a career in which I could soar. I had no clue that it would be in Property Management and Development. I always jest that nobody dreams of being in Property Management when they’re growing up.

I was aware that I would have to begin at an entry-level position given I had no prior experience in the field. Luckily, I had a strong manager who pushed me to succeed. Over the years I worked my way up from a Leasing Professional to Regional Manager.

Throughout the years, I constantly said yes when asked to help out on any project beyond my daily tasks. I found that each time I said yes, it opened up more doors for me.

On the creative side, I kept honing my writing skills over time. I have a dozen books in the works right now. My first published book, Thank You: A Gift of Gratitude, is available on Amazon. I chose to publish this book first as I thought it was something everyone could relate to and might help them to view life in a more positive light.

My message would be to always follow your heart and dreams, but you have to put the work in first. It may take longer than you would like, but if you continue to pursue your passion amazing things will happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is an easy one! Given I live in the San Diego area, there is never a lack of things to do each day. I usually like to show people the side of San Diego they would not see on their own. Some of the hidden gems. Here is a sample of what the week would look like.

Monday – We would have to start at one of my favorite breakfast places in Oceanside called Don’s Country Kitchen. The food, service, and atmosphere are all incredible. Then we would hit the beach for a relaxing start to the trip. Spending time in the sun and surf is always good for the soul.

Tuesday – The endless places to hike continue to amaze me. We could either hit one of my two favorites, Torrey Pines State Reserve or Annie’s Canyon Trail. Just a short ride from my home and we get to see some of the best views in the area, while at the same time getting that heart pumping a little. Since we are in the area, after the hike, heading over to Del Mar for lunch never disappoints. One of my favorites is Board & Brew. Great sandwiches and vibe.

Wednesday – Now that the week is at the halfway mark we may want to spend the day downtown. After a small breakfast at the house, with no real rush to the morning, we would make our way downtown for lunch at Herb & Wood in Little Italy. Then a quick trip on the trolley, we would head over to Seaport Village. I know this may be a “tourist trap”, but even after living here for years, I still love to experience it myself and show guests the waterfront. The shops and harbor are true San
Diego. Then maybe head back to Fifth Ave for dinner at Lavo. It is one of my new favorite places for dinner.

Thursday – Let’s head north! I love Orange County and all the areas we can experience. Hopefully, this trip is in July or August so I can take them to The Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. The art show and pageant are amazing experiences you will not see anywhere else. Finishing the day at Nick’s Laguna Beach is a must before heading home.

Friday – Last Day. This is always the toughest day to plan. You want to make sure you end it with an experience they will not forget. Since we are known for the sea and of course sunsets, we would want to combine them into this day. After breakfast at Daily News Cafe in Carlsbad, we will drive down the 101 to enjoy those coastal views all the way to La Jolla and of course, make a stop to see the Sea Lions. Then head to Coronado for lunch at The Del and walk around the hotel, then take a bike tour to see the rest of the island. We will finish the day with a Sunset Cruise. Sean, sunset, and wine. I am pretty sure it doesn’t get better than that!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so thankful for all the support my family has given me throughout my life. Without them, I would not be here today. Their encouragement, guidance, and dedication to helping me reach my goals have been invaluable. They have been there for me through my successes and failures, and I could not have asked for a better support system.
