We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Human and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I had always dreamed of climbing the corporate ladder and living a career driven lifestyle. That all changed the moment I had kids. Suddenly those long hours at work weren’t worth the time I lost with my family, so I chose to find a career that would give me a better work life balance. I slowly turned my photography hobby into a side hustle, then part time gig, and now a full time business. My job is now part of my lifestyle. One where I get to spend my days with my family, traveling and exploring the world together.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self taught artist that just isn’t that into art. If someone told me years ago that I would have a career in any art form, I would have laughed. I was never interested in art growing up, had always thought I had zero creativity, and thought math was a more fun way to spend my time. When I discovered photography something clicked, and while it’s considered an art form, to me it’s a fascinating exploration of geometry. I see my photographs in lines, where to place my subject and how to use the natural lines of their surroundings to tell a story. I found a creative way to combine art and math and think that different way of seeing things is what sets my photography apart from so many other amazing artists out there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been leading group adventures for a few years now and love showing people the natural beauty of the area. I always include lots of outdoor time, a bit of adventure, tacos, and hopefully new friends. On a recent trip I hosted in Sedona, we hiked many of the beautiful trails, caught a sunset at the top of a mountain, canyoneered through the canyons, ate lots of tacos, zoned out with some outdoor yoga, and made lots of new friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my parents for helping me get to where I am now. Not only did they give me a carefree, outdoor childhood, but as I’ve grown they’ve supported me in every dream I’ve had (whether they’ve been good ones or bad!). They genuinely believed in me each and every time and taught me the true meaning of success.
