We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica De La Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in the Botech/Pharma industry for many years. Although I’m so grateful for all of those years, I did spend a lot of time commuting and away from my family. After some time and from some encouragement from a friend, I finally made the decision to start my own real estate business and be independent as opposed to waiting for the next layoff to happen or to continue commuting for countless hours. My though process behind starting by business was # 1 – helping people make their dreams of hem ownership come true and #2 have the freedom of time to be more present for my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Real estate is not an easy business to be in. Starting a new business, I definitely did not quit my day job, in which I consult for pharma and biotech companies remotely. I am definitely thankful for my 20+ years of experience that allows me to still utilize my skills to contribute to the well-being of patients around the world.

It definitely was not easy having a full-time job, commuting, taking care of my family while also studying to get my license. I am thankful for having the support of my husband and mom who really stepped up and helped me to be successful in my journey.

My care for others is what sets me apart. I genuinely care about my clients and want to help them to find exactly what they need and are looking for in their perfect home. I have been on the other side of a transaction before and know how stressful it can be making the biggest purchase of your life. I provide the best customer service and communication throughout the process to ensure my clients are informed every step of the way through close of escrow.

Lessons leaned throughout my life and journey thus far- take a day off! It is so important to take time for self-care and to disconnect from everything from time to time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the Bay Area. There are so many places to visit and see!! My top places for those who are coming for a visit San Francisco would definitely be a trip to the Golden Gate Bridge. Golden Gate Park would be the next destination. If you like to hike and be outdoors, Muir Woods is also a must. As far a places to eat, where do I start? There are so many options in the Bay to include not only SF, but Berkeley, Emeryville and Oakland. So many options, If I were bringing a friend along for a day, I would probably take them to a small hole in the wall somewhere, those are the best places to eat!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send a shout out to my dear friend Michelle Nasiri. I met Michelle back in 2019 when we worked together at a start-up biotech company in Richmond, CA. We quickly became friends and she mentioned at that time that she was in real estate school. I had always had an interest in Real Estate, but never really had anyone close to me that was in the industry. I asked her to keep me updated on her progress and to let me know if it was working out for her down the road. After sometime, we both ended up leaving the company, but still kept in touch. Once she was licensed, she let me know how much she loved it and encouraged me to get licensed. After some time I did! Thank you, Michelle, for being such a good friend!
