We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Murphy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jess, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Only 1 bad day in a row!”

Written: August 8th, 2019 in my personal journal, during my colon rectal cancer trajectory.

Google asked me for a title for this “new page.” Without thinking or maybe I’ve thought too much I wrote “not sure where I am going.”

And honestly that is the case. Something is happening, something is changing and I don’t know where I I am going.

I am the one that my sister laughs at because I am always reading another self help book. Maybe it is about cleaning the clutter or 20 questions to make a good relationship even better. Since cancer I have yet to seek a book. I’m talking about inside mental help. Truthfully from a girl that happily carries a big plate, Why seek help? I can figure out this new “happening.” So I get hugs from my friends, look for validation in my cancer blog, and I talk. I talk to my husband, my mom, my sister, and my friends… but last weekend I fearfully said “I am on the verge of a mental breakdown.” Chest pains and all. Angry and sad and done with this chemo/radiation cancer process I found myself on the couch not knowing when way was up. And from a girl that just always is able to carry that big plate, I felt it crumble between my fingers. So I began texting Kari, my dad’s wife, she is a cancer sister. She truly understands the magnitude of sitting in the dark with cancer and I was truly grateful for the warm hug she gave me through our small handheld devices as we texted.

But I only sat in the dark one day because I told myself “Only 1 bad day in a row!” And at a turtles pace I am feeling more normal, but this time, I am not sure where I am going but I do know when I get there it will be FANTASTIC!

Written: March 7, 2022 I still LIVE today with that affirmation 3 years later. It has been my guiding light pushing me, challenging me, and keeping things positive. Whether it is in my professional World or personal World it is my compass.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Over 40 years ago my parents opened up a veterinary clinic in a little red house. They worked hard to show community commitment to client pets. In every corner there were 3 young peering eyes; My sister, now a practicing veterinarian in Pennsylvania, my brother with a successful local boarding facility, and myself.

9 years ago my family gave myself and Dr. Harr a chance to continue the legacy. With a little grit, lots of hope, and tons of hard work we were able to cut the ribbon and cheers to another 40 years at a new 12,500 square foot location. During the course of the past 9 years I have learned to listen more and speak less, that just because something isn’t done my way, it does not make it the wrong way.

Our brand….interesting question. Our brand is intrinsically us. We are patient focused and want to provide you top notch care through the life of your pet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would go to a hockey game at Notre Dame, it is THE BEST stadium I have ever witnessed a sporting event at.

We would go to The Whiskey Exchange for the perfect Lemondrop martini, and then to Capri in Granger for a Caesar salad and a Pinot Grigio.

We would end up at my house and grill and enjoy my backyard patio.

Next day head to Westwind Brewery for a Change in Trajectory Porter and the BEST pretzel!

Because if my best friend is visiting, I just want to eat, drink, talk and catch up!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
