We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerick Sobie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was tired of going from job to job every couple of years. When I was young, I was with one company for about 8 years. I was progressing up the ranks and I thought, “this is the company that I’m going to retire from.” Well, that didn’t happen because it ended up closing. I loved that place and the people. Everybody got along and genuinely cared about each other. I thought after that, that if I work hard, I’ll find that “magic” again with another company. The “magic” was never recreated. For one reason or another, most of the time it was my choice, I would go to another job. I never found a place that I wanted to work for the rest of my life. This is when I decided to start my own business. I figured it was now or never. If it failed, I would be young enough to overcome the financial loss. If I didn’t try, I would always have that thought in the back of my head, “What if?”.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The thing that sets us apart is that we are here for the customer. Our goal is to educate consumers on what’s the right footwear for them and why. For many, we help them overcome issues with their feet, knees and back. Your feet are your base and most of the issues start there. We do a foot analysis and ask a series of questions, so we can learn more about the customer and their needs. For us it’s not about selling them a pair of shoes. It’s about educating them, explaining the benefits of the shoes and giving them tips on how to help with their issues; if they have them. Others come because they are looking for athletic shoes to walk or run in, shoes/sandals for a trip, work or an event. What’s a good shoe/sandal for them? Depends on many factors. We are all about giving the customers options and let them choose. If you treat the customer right, the sales will come. All you need to do is look at our Google Reviews and see what people say.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I live in Temecula so I would take them to one of our local wineries to enjoy the wine, some food and the view. Maybe Renzoni, South Coast, Fazeli, Europe, etc.. There’s so many that offer a great view with good wine. If we are just going to get a couple of glasses of wine and enjoy the view, then I would take them to Danza; as we are members there.
After that, for dinner, we would go to “Old Town” and hit one of the restaurants there. Maybe 1909, The Public House, The Goat and Vine, Small Barn, or any of the others in the area. Lots of great choices. Then for an after-dinner drink, I would take them to Luke’s. It’s a rooftop restaurant and bar. Spectacular view from the patio.
On another day, I would take them to Coronado Beach. Enjoy the view and weather, then come back to the Gaslamp Quarter for a nice dinner and drinks. So many places down there to check out. Maybe a roof top bar to enjoy the spectacular San Diego sunset.
Perhaps on another day, we would come back and check out one of the speakeasies but I would make sure to get there early, because on the weekends the Gaslamp Quarter gets packed.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give the shout out to my beautiful wife, Gracie. Without her support, none of this would’ve happened. We mortgaged our house to start the business. It was a gamble. I had her unwavering support. It was risky, specially since she was home raising our two children. We would have no source of income but whatever the business can muster. It was definitely stressful but she never questioned the decision or showed negativity to what we were doing. This was definitely a team effort to get the business going.

The other shoutout is to my business partner, Mark Ventrella. Without him, we would’ve never grown to where we are now. Having a person that you can bounce ideas with, share the duties and trust is vital. It was a team effort, doing whatever we needed to succeed.
