We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Leigh Warner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer Leigh, how does your business help the community?
My business, Experience Wildlife, focuses on wildlife conservation photography with an emphasis on wildlife photography ethics and human-wildlife coexistence. Through my photography I raise awareness about conflicts that arise between humans and their wild neighbors and help come up with solutions to encourage coexistence.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography is made through many years of hard work and dedication to create wildlife and conservation photographs made in the wild and displayed as I saw it. None of my subjects are baited and none of my photographs are manipulated. I am excited to share with the others the wonders of the natural world and inspire them to protect the world around them. Being a full time professional wildlife photographer is not easy. Work can be inconsistent and the need to diversify is vitally important to staying in business. By offering photography tours and workshops as well as participating in speaking engagements, art festivals and pitching my photo stories to publications I manage to survive. With many events being canceled this year and the opportunity to travel being limited I have had to stretch my creativity even further and have opened up my offerings to online photography education with the launch of my new community Experience Wildlife Workshop Series www.experiencewildlifeworkshops.com I am continually inspired by the world around me and I hope that my photography can help others feel inspired as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite location to visit is La Jolla Cove. Spending time photographing both the Harbor Seals and the California Sea Lions from a safe and respectful distance both from land and in the water. La Jolla has some of the best snorkeling in all of California. There are also tons of bird to photograph including Brown Pelicans, Cormorants and lots of other shorebirds. If you are lucky you might even spot some of the San Diego Parrots that have made their homes in the nearby Palm Trees. La Jolla also has tons of shopping and dining options as well as some of my favorite art galleries to visit such as the National Geographic gallery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many individuals and organizations that I own my success to. One such organization is the North American Nature Photography Association also known as NANPA. NANPA promotes the art and science of nature photography as a medium of communication, nature appreciation, and environmental protection, provides information, education, inspiration, and opportunity for all persons interested in nature photography and fosters excellence and ethical conduct in all aspect of our endeavors and especially encourages responsible photography in the wild. As NANPA’s Ethics Committee Chair it has provided me a platform to reach photographers from all over North America in my efforts to provided education for wildlife photography ethics.
