We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Starbuck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As business owners and Entrepreneurs in many cases we are extremest. We strive to hit the highest goals, to perform for our customers or clients to the best of our abilities. Work life balance comes up quite often and in many cases falls short. One reason for this is there are times when work must take precedence or play. However by using the MOVD30 we focus on repetition and finding what areas must be completed daily. This way guilt can be put aside and the job gets done. By focusing in 3 Areas Physical, Mental Clarity and the one thing that keeps your business in momentum will allow you time, strength and accomplishment to do the fun stuff.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started on the internet in 2002 selling surf and snow apparel online, which turned into 7 stores selling sunglasses, watches and motorcycle apparel during the Jesse James, Monster Garage and Chopper Motorcycle area was hot. One thing that I learned as the industry started to shift was fads will not always stay in the apparel industry so I wanted to find an industry that the fad changing would stay inside the niche. At that time It was the sunglasses business. The styles will change however 2 eyeballs needing to be protected by the sun would never go away this lead me to the sunglass business. And it worked. However due to the crash of 2008 which I was not fully affected till 2010 the need for large amounts of capitol was among me and that time it was best to devolve and move on. In 2010 I was living in San Diego CA and needed to get some fresh air. I got on my Harley Davidson and was going to head out to Sacramento. On this trip I always make my way through the Grapevine, an amazing ride with vegetation and farmland, the likes of no other. I had made this trip before, however this time I recognized I was always on the move. And by always on the move I mean not enough time to take care of myself which resulted in loss of weight, loss of muscle and most of all loss of having fun. As far as my mind was all over the place I was not able to think clearly, put the business vision I needed together and on the business front (at the time running a digital agency) I could not identify what the thing that moved the thing that was the driving force to my business. Which breeds a lack of confidence, creativity and loss of revenue. From that day forward I was on a journey to understand what it would look like to be an Entrepreneur strong and through this journey MOVD Entrepreneur Evolved was developed. At MOVD we focus on the evolution of the business owner and our current product is the MOVD30. The MOVD30 combines Physical, Mindset customizing a business Owners set of actions that will have them earn, learn or pivot. All designed to step into momentum. Since then we have served over 100+ business owners with results ranging form massive clarity, building strength which in turn has them doing fun things again, like hiking, playing sports they have not played for years and the good ones, playing with there kids more. As far as financial results, business owners and adding $15,600, $18,600, $24,700 and in multiple cases doubling there business in 30 days.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Solana Beach San Diego we are very fortunate to have amazing sight seeing and great food.

I would start out by taking him for a drive up the coast passing torrey pines, watching the hang gliders sour through the skys and end up sight seeing sea lions off the coast of la Jolla.

I would then on the way back have a Tee time up at Torrey Pines Golf course selfishly giving myself and him the best views you can ask for as we Tee off on the 3rd hole overlooking the Pacific Ocean. After the game was over I would head back to the house to get changed and prepare for a nice evening at the Brigantine Del Mar. Where you overlook dog beach and enjoy the train going by as you look over the horse track.

I would then spend 3 days hanging out at the beach surfing Del Mar, Swamis and Beacons.

To finish of the week I would look at the line up a the Belly Up and find ourselves engulfed in the local music and a nice cocktails remembering the week and telling stories of the good old times and wondering “how did we make it this far, if a few knuckleheads could get here, it would make me believe any anyone with a dream.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
