We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ownership ownership ownership. With great responsibility comes great reward. Not exactly sure whose quote that is but that was my thought process . I won’t say I’ve always wanted to work for myself but once I started working , I think that gave me the will to go after what I wanted for my life . There is absolutely nothing wrong with working a job . I have worked in several fields from labs to fast food restaurants to construction companies to flagging companies . A multitude of different things but nothing feels as great as getting up every day and going after my passions . Whether it’s gaining new buildings for my cleaning company , Graces Clean or working on pictures , videos , music or shows for my A&R portfolio. I may be creating new merch or events for my mental health non profit Shine Through . You can find us on instagram at shine_thru_. If feels good to put the work in and watch my dreams become reality . Having something to live on as my legacy for my family and godchildren is probably my greatest reward .

What should our readers know about your business?
I have a cleaning business called Graces Clean . I worked in a lab for about three years before starting my own business.I obtained my small business management/entrepreneurship degree from the University of Phoenix June of 2022. During that time I started to build my business plan . I remember being so hesitant to submit it. It was like giving away what I felt was my pot of gold . But , I did , I aced my paper and gt excellent feedback from my professors at that time . After I resigned from the lab , I did more research. Learn , learn ,and learn some more , was my strategy. All the knowledge I gained about my field is what helped me every time I had a struggle . Graces Clean was started to be a service to others. Our values and morals are based within helping our communities or businesses to stay tidy . Our slogan is Clean Spaces Make Happy People. Whether it is a small apartment, big office or a park in a community, we are dedicated to helping things stay clean and organized.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love food . Our first stop would probably be Barrs Music City Soulfood in the Antioch-Brentwood area . We would visit downtown to check out some bars and museums. One of my favorite museums downtown is the National Museum Of African American Music . From the interactive exhibits to all the history , it’s a great experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always give the upmost respect and thanks to God for my gifts and my success . I wasn’t always this positive person . I didn’t always have the passion and drive to even pursue my dreams . It still gets hard as an entrepreneur more days than less . Without my prayer life and relationship with God , I probably would have gave up. Aside from that my little sister , Chef Symone Lashana , keeps me going . My family in general . I have a beautifully strong village . Very thankful for my relationship with God and my family support .
