Meet Jacqualynn Gordon | Doctor of Physical Therapy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqualynn Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacqualynn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have worked in different settings for Physical Therapy and I wanted to improve the care that people are getting. When someone comes for physical therapy they are looking for someone to explain why they are in pain and to help them get out of it. It seems simple but it’s not always being done, sadly. I enjoy teaching and helping people. I want to empower people to reach their health and fitness goals. When people enter the Onyx Physical Therapy studio I want them to feel comfortable, and inspired.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Onyx Physical Therapy and Wellness is in its beginning phases. We established our clinic in June 2022, after doing concierge physical therapy. Onyx Physical Therapy’s Mission is: Redefining physical therapy through education and quality movement to empower athletes of all levels to achieve optimal performance and live a healthy lifestyle. Everyday has a new challenge when starting a business. Not only are we continually learning new skills directly related to Physical Therapy, but we are also learning ways to improve our business model and our customer experience. The best advise I can give any business owner is to show up and strive to improve everyday, even if it is just 1% better than you were yesterday.
When you come to Onyx Physical Therapy we want you to feel valued, heard, and most importantly that you are progressing towards your goals with each visit.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Friday Dinner at Coasterra, drinks in little Italy at Kettner Exchange or Ironside. Saturday hike at Torrey Pines followed by brunch at Waverly. Afternoon walk through downtown Encinitas, stopping for tacos at Fish Shop or Fish 101 for lunch and if you are hungry, dinner at Buona Forchetta. Sunday is a coast bike ride with a stop at Swami’s meditation gardens and coffee from Philz or Better Buzz. Spend the afternoon in Carlsbad. Ceviche and Pisco sour from Fresco Cocina and then another drink at Campfire.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My partner in life and business, Jo, is my biggest supporter and motivator. We share the same goal of creating a Physical Therapy practice that delivers unrivaled care. We are both passionate about health and fitness and we want to share that with others. In addition, I have an amazing community around me that inspires me everyday.
