We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackson Finn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jackson, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Never Giving Up is not a statement it’s mindset. When you adopt that mindset and then put into action, one literally becomes almost unstoppable. No matter what life gives you and we all know that it’s a series of wins and losses, ups and downs, setbacks and breakthroughs. Without it, it just wouldn’t be life! Adopting a “Never give up” attitude will make the difference in everything you do. That, I can promise you. The approach, when applied will utilize your mind, body and spirit and give you the confidence and the ability to get back up each and every time you are knocked down, let down or told No. I have utilized this approach in my business and in life and in our world today its never been more important than to adopt . As an artist and galley owner things can get rather challenging at times but relying on what you set out to accomplish and continue to focus on your why is critical. The Why as we know is “why you do what you do” and the gratification of what that gives you and how it feeds your inner strength, So to ask whether to keep going or to give up the later is simply not an option.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing that separates me from other artist is not only the desire to succeed as an artist and gallery owner but being capable to be versatile in what you create and your approach in doing so. As a photographer you have the luxury of technology always changing and that works to your benefit but you still need to try new things, some work and some definitely do not, The different styles that define you as a photographer have so much to do with every aspect of the process, from thinking about a subject you want to capture, the attempt in going out and doing so and then of course what you actually shoot edit and print. As a painter, you have to continue to try new things as well but I believe the discipline requires even more dedication to paint and complete something you feel is finished and are satisfied with. One way to continue to push your self in the creative process is surround your self with positive influencers and mentors that your admire, I have been fortunate enough to have several that have become close friends with and that continues to help keep you grounded, disciplined and assist is overcoming many of the challenges you face.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Thats a challenging question. But ok here goes it. We would be definitely spending some quality time in the water so hitting up many of the favorite surf spots in north county would be a big part of the plan. I won’t attempt to list them all but the eats after a surf session are critical as we all know. Here are some of my favorite;
For Coffee & Breakfast: Swamis Cafe Encinitas, Pannikin, Vinaka Cafe For Lunch Park 101 on Carlsbad & Las Olas in Cardiff are two of my favorites Dinner is usually with the wives and family and Vigilucci’s Steak & Seafood off Tamarack is a go to for sure, one the few places you can take in the sunset and have a incredible dinner my other favorite here locally in Carlsbad is 264 Fresco as my family and I have been going there for along time and we always love it. For the rest its hard to nail down but of course La Jolla is go to spot for when folks are visiting as it offers so much. Take in a hike at Torrey Pines state park, get in a kayak and explore the sea caves, explore the tide pools take a drive up to Mt Soledad for the view and then work your way south to close out the day at Sunset Cliffs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I recognize my wife and my family for all their love and support !

Other: In December 2015, Seacoast Gallery opened its doors in Carlsbad, located across the street from the premium outlet shops in the Paseo shopping center adjacent to the Corner Bakery. While small in size, it is big in visual impact. The gallery is a coastal themed gallery, hence the name Seacoast Gallery. The collection is made up of fine art photography, Original oils, Limited Editions and fine art glass. The gallery features world-renowned glass artist Richard Satava, who’s intricate hand blown glass figures of jellyfish are both rich in color while the realism captured of the jellyfish figures are second to none. The main artist in the gallery is our owner and local artist, Jackson Finn; both a painter and photographer who displays multiple collections of North County favorite beaches, surf scenes and various other exotic locations such as Hawaii and the tropics. One particular series that has gained much attention is the “coastal abstracts” series which is a must-see. Most recently Seacoast Gallery has expanded its collection by featuring works of renowned artists Wade Koniakowsky, Ashton Howard & Nathan Ledyard. Together their paintings and mixed media of exoxitc beaches, dreamscapes and our ocean continue to expand the true essence of our coastal art gallery. Jackson, a resident here in Carlsbad, got his start while displaying at local coffee shops such as Vinaka, along with multiple venues and wine bars including the former Relm and Solterra in Leucadia. After being featured in multiple shows, he then was invited to participate in the annual San Diego art Gala of the Surfrider Foundation for multiple years as one of the featured artists helping the cause of protecting our beaches and oceans. Jackson’s work is also featured among other locations in Carlsbad; at the Front Porch Gallery, Skylar’s Home & Design in the heart of the village, in Encinitas at Bliss 101, Grounded and in Solana Beach, at Exclusive Collections Gallery in the Cedros Design District. We are pleased to now be a part of the Fine Art Galleries in our town of Carlsbad; you can visit the gallery Friday through Sunday By appointment. 5617 Paseo Del Norte #132, Carlsbad, CA 92008 Phone:(760) 448-6182 http://www.seacoastgallery.com/ http://www.jacksonfinn.com/ https://www.facebook.com/jacksonfinnart https://www.facebook.com/seacoastgallery
