We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Bernstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isaiah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When Traildogs was started, it was a hobby that we could have never imagined would have formed into what it is today. It started with a way to document the fun we would have on mountain bikes and it morphed over time into what it is today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When Traildogs started, it was a group of friends that wanted to ride, have fun, and improve. We did not realize what it would turn into in less than 3 years. When we started , our first ride was 3 people, and it morphed into having over 100 rider show up to our events. It was challenging getting to where we are today because being consistent in creating, editing, and publishing content once, twice, or three times a day and having all of that be original content and not republishing anyone else’s work. When we first started one thing that helped tremendously was having brands like SpokeX bike shop come along side us and introduce us to other brands and riders which in turn got more companies realizing what we were wanting to accomplish and wanting to be a part of it. Brands like STIKRD, Zoic, Spy Optic, Versus tires, Afton Shoes, Güp, Skypark Bike Park and Snow Valley Bike Park has since have come along side us to work better the riding community within Southern California. The lessons we have learned through this process was to stay consistent, be original, and communicate. A big thing that we have found on the trails is that, being active is needed for mental and physical health.

We have become good friends with riders that have the same passion that and we wanted to highlight the work they do such as Mark Hill from The Segment, which interviews riders, athletes, and the community almost every week; Adam Mock which is a huge advocate for mental health and healthy life style on and off the trail, he brings the community together on events such as “Ride and Shine” this July 9th, to raise awareness that the riders left and right of you may struggle with the same things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of our best friends was visiting for the week, we would sit around all weekend, we would grab our Mountain bikes and get out and ride! Some of the Best trails in Southern California are within an hour and a half of each other, and some even closer. We would head to Greer ranch which the community came together to work with the city to not get shut down but instead be maintained. Then the next day it would be off to big bear! Along the way is were we would stop to grab some authentic Mexican food. We would rest by taking a lift up at Snow Valley so all we had to do would be ride down anything from an east smooth trail to the Jump Line! The next day we would get up, head to lake arrow head, less than an hour away and get some food and drinks at Lake Arrowhead Brewing Co. and then arrive at Skypark Bike park. Even though there’s no lift, the ride up is smooth and easy, and you can hang out with your friends at the top before dropping into some of the most fun flow trails. After that ride we would stop at Saint nicks to grab a burger in Santa’s village which is at the end of the trail. The next day would be a family day, just hanging out with our wives, kids, friends and family! Balancing that time is greatly important to us so that it is balanced. The next day we would have a family ride day and camp out at Vail Lake bike park where they hold the souther California enduro series. Vail lake has trails for all ages, even the 2 year olds love to ride their bikes there.

Our success couldn’t have been possible without the friendship we have with the other Traildogs riders, Our family that have supported us heavily since the creation of Traildogs ( most of the Traildogs have wife’s and kids so balancing all of that has been possible because of the endless support and willingness of our spouses and kids) and lastly the community came around us! We have not strayed from what we started with and that’s having a positive community around us and just having fun!
