We had the good fortune of connecting with Ibarionex Perello and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ibarionex, what do you attribute your success to?
I was an early adopter of podcasting. So, I didn’t have anyone to compare myself with. This allowed me to make The Candid Frame podcast something unique to me, which has allowed it to thrive. There are now other shows that interview photographers, but TCF has a unique voice that our audience has appreciated since 2006.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a photographer. I am often identified as a street or travel photographer, but I prefer to be recognized as an observer who just so happens to make photographs of what he sees. I don’t adhere to a particular style or approach, which has allowed to develop my own voice both as a photographer and an educator. This is especially the case in my role as host and producer of a long-running podcast.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is Los Angeles. There is no shortage of things to do, see, and experience. I would visit my favorite restaurants in Pasadena and Los Angeles, especially those out-of-the-way places that aren’t hip or popular. I would also take them to places like Downtown Los Angeles and the Crenshaw district, where we could walk and talk about the city’s history. The city has an incredible music scene. So, I would include evening outings to clubs where a variety of styles of music are performed, including rock, r&b, country, and jazz.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The friends and family who have supported my journey as a photographer, writer, educator, and podcaster. Their encouragement has been invaluable.
