We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business has always been part of how I visualize living up to my full potential as an individual. Working for myself has always been the drive behind my creativity and happiness. I have found working for companies rewarding, but I also found working for corporations limiting compared to working for myself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sending You Aloha is a business that brings people the aloha experience to their home. Fresh Hawaiian flowers, coffee, tea, gifts and more from our Hawaii home to yours. We bring the very best to our clients whether that be freshly picked flowers, locally grown coffee, tea, honey and so much more. We believe that providing the highest quality goods is the best business practice. This business is based on aloha, the literal translation of the phrase is [Alo] meaning presence and [Hā] meaning breath. Together the word aloha translates to “The presence of breath” or “breath of life”.
That is what we aim to provide to our clients, the smile and presence of breath that everyone who has visited Hawaii remembers. That is what we are most proud and excited about, that moment when you, your friend or loved one experiences that feeling.
Sending You Aloha was actually not our first business, during the pandemic we asked ourselves a lot of questions and we also wanted to do something different that would make us happy and better use our talents. We have gone through so many different challenges but every experience we feel helped us grow and change. If we had not had those difficult times we would not have the knowledge of how to navigate and avoid those pitfalls again. In a nut shell we are most proud of our fortitude and perseverance.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live on the Big Island of Hawaii so the list would be long, but my top picks would be: Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea beach, night dive or snorkel with manta rays with Wild Hawaii Adventures, and visit Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park for snorkeling and possible dolphin encounters.

Of course, Kona is home to the Kona Brewing Company and Ola Brewing Co. so both of those would be high on my list of places to grab a beverage and some food. The food on the Big Island is excellent! Don’t skip the Ahi (tuna) and even the sushi from KTA my favorite local grocery is SO ONO!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that have inspired me as well as supported me throughout my life. One couple in particular are my Auntie & Uncle, Gloria and Tom Jarrard. Both of them acted as anchors throughout my childhood and a source of stability. They encouraged me throughout my life, and I continue to feel gratitude and thanks for their support and kindness.

Of course, my husband, who always believes in me while also providing me a wonderful sounding board when my ideas might just be pie in the sky.

I also have many others to thank for my vision and drive and I’ve learned a lot from other peoples choices.

I think I have been blessed with the ability to visualize what I would like the world to look like, even though life is never perfect. I truly believe that we can all live a happy life and I live that out by what I create and share with others.
