We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Debban and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was, I loved doing makeup. I started doing makeup for fun, and I was self taught. I started getting noticed a bit, compliments here and there from strangers, my friends and family supported me immensely and I began to love it more than anything I had tried before. I had some friends start to ask me to do their makeup for small events, then family, and at this time I started to see a lot more makeup influencers on social media. I started to think, well, I love doing makeup on myself, and now that I have tried on others, I love being able to share my makeup abilities. So, from there, I decided to just make an instagram to post the makeup I did on myself. I gained followers, my friends shared my posts, and eventually I began getting booked for actual events. So, essentially, the thought process behind starting my business was not with the intention to make it a business, it was just to be able to do what I loved.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am today was not easy, but I definitely still have a long way to go. I am only just starting my business, but I’m so grateful for the progress I have made so far and I know everything that has happened along the way has been for a reason. I’m proud that I overcame my anxiety of starting my business in the first place, because at first I was extremely unsure. I want the world to know how passionate I am about my business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in the city are either downtown San Diego or by the beach. If I were to plan a day with someone from out of town I would start with breakfast at Morning Glory in Little Italy, then maybe a little shopping at the farmers market, and a nice walk downtown. I would take them to lunch (if we were even hungry at that time) to Harumama Noodles + Buns, also in Little Italy. After Lunch we would head down to Pacific Beach and do a little shopping by the pier. There are amazing thrift stores and little shops in Pacific Beach. We would stop by Better Buzzed and grab a coffee, then finish off the day with a cookie and ice cream from Baked Bear and watching the sunset on the Pacific Beach pier,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out everyone in my life that has supported me, because all my friends and family have done their part in supporting my business. In particular, my dad was the one that pushed me to try it, he always wanted me to try new makeup looks, he bought me supplies I would need, and he was the first person to tell me how amazing my makeup looks were. Along with him, I want to shout out my amazing friend Nyomi Lumpkin. All of my friends have been amazing with supporting me, but her in particular, she has shared every single thing I have ever done on my makeup account, told everyone about my business, and has always made it a point to tell me how much she likes the makeup that I do. Its hard to put into words how much she has supported me and the things that she has done for me throughout this journey. In conclusion, I am so grateful for the support I have received from everyone in my life, but those two people in particular have really made an impact.
