Meet Haley Shabankar | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Haley Shabankar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from the Monterey Bay and grew up in Carmel-by-the-Sea, which I feel immensely grateful for. It has a small-town mentality a lot like pockets of north county San Diego with the same laid back surf culture. My Dad and two brothers were heavy into surfing (me on a small scale) so I spent a lot of time by the ocean and just out in nature. I think having that upbringing really grounded me as a person and laid the foundation for my easy going, laid-back personality.

What should our readers know about your business?
Brovia Interiors is a full-service interior design firm which I started towards the end of 2019 after working with another prominent, local design firm for several years. The owner of that firm was very instrumental in helping me grow as a designer and learn the construction business. The end game for me has always been to start my own firm and I’m proud that I built up enough confidence and courage to do it. Covid hit not too far after I started my business which like many others, caused me to pivot and think differently in terms of how to approach my business model in terms of networking and reaching a higher platform of clients. It took a lot of time and dedication to grow my business to where it is today and I’m grateful for each and every one of my clients who put their trust in me. I love building relationships with my clients and learning about them on a personal level, which helps throughout the design process to really hone in on their specific, individual needs. I think some of my strongest qualities are having the ability to adapt quickly to unique or unforeseen situations or issues that may arise and am very hands on and communicative throughout the design process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since there are so many amazing places in SD it’s hard to narrow it down, but in a snapshot the top places I would first take my bestie to my local north county areas like Torrey Pines in La Jolla or Annie’s Canyon in Solana Beach for a great scenic hike, a couple of my favorite beaches like Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach, San Elijo State Beach in Cardiff and the Self Realization Fellowship, Meditation Center in Encinitas for a little visual treat and self-centering. Outside of the north county bubble, I would take them downtown to Little Italy for yummy food and drinks and San Diego Bay for seafood, fun local bars and great coastal views.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to say, my mom has always been my biggest cheerleader in life and has always had a good way of putting me in check. She’s helped and supported me through a lot in life and business, but most of all always advocated to stay true to myself and my own unique vision.
