We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Pricoli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greg, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I think what pushed me to pursue a creative career in film and television was my love for storytelling. It’s a gift and a curse and something I can’t exactly turn off. I think part of it deals with growing up in such a large family and getting to know so many different types of people within and through traveling. For as long as I can remember I was telling and writing stories down and overtime that evolved in many ways and has gotten me a great lit manager and so many friends in creative circles that I am honored to know. I guess at some point I came to the realization I’d never be able to part with storytelling and live a happy life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well I’m a screenwriter and producer. I’m from New York City, and have been there my entire life. My dad is one of six and my mom is one of seven. Predominantly Italian and mostly crazy, my dad will say that’s my mothers side and he’s mostly right. I’ve been telling stories and writing my entire life. I’ve worked on sets, pa’d on projects, worked for an arts non profits but really writing is what I love doing most. Writing and networking are my fortes and it’s really what has gotten me as far as I have gotten. Everyone tells you to be a good person and they’re right. You don’t get anywhere in life without being so and if you’re just friendly and welcoming to all people you never know what you can do and what can happen. Well, I was debating moving to Los Angeles for a long time, I loved New York City, my entire family, my friends, my life was there. My grandmother pushed me to go to graduate school at Loyola Marymount, she pushed me to go and I was hesitant, to be honest I am a Grandma’s boy and leaving her to come here was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, even if it opened so many new doors. I’ve worked with great people, produced great films, am developing my own television series with my manager while attending school and managing a coffee shop in Beverly Hills. I think if anything I’ve learned from life it is that the struggle is real but it is worth it. You don’t grow from being stagnant and you don’t grow from not stepping out of your comfort zone, even if that means driving 2,815 miles across the country with your cousin and your pet bearded dragon as your co-pilots for the journey. I think what I want everyone to know is that anyone can do anything they set out to do. You just have to believe in yourself, be thankful for your support system and just keep taking it day by day, you never know where life will take you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m pretty new to Los Angeles, it’s been six or seven months of me being here now. But I’d definitely have to say we’d be at the beach, music venues and hiking trails. I live about five minutes from Venice Beach, so most of our time would be there. I think what I’ve enjoyed most is The Winston, my friend Cam Graves Dj’s there a lot, it’s a great venue. The Roxy, The Whiskey, The Black Rose, all other great venues I would take them to. In terms of hiking, the Hot Springs Canyon Trail was pretty cool, Chumash Trail, the west coast is filled with such amazing sights. I have a goal to take advantage and hike as much as I can in the area. I also manage a coffee shop, Stella Coffee in Beverly Hills, so I mean I am bias to the coffee and would probably stop in to grab a tasty drink. We have one it’s called the Shrek, it’s the best thing you’ll ever try, you have my word.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s really impossible to narrow down a shout out to any one person. I never forget anyone. The old man who gave me a chocolate bar as I waited as a kid for the principal to scold me or any of the friends I’ve lost touch over the years. I don’t forget anyone that has been a part of my life. They’re a part of who I am and I appreciate and owe them all. However, the biggest factors in how I am able to have gotten so far would be my father, who busted his ass working overnights for so many years, his mother, my grandmother who recently passed but has been my moral compass and heart since forever and definitely the rest of my family. Again, for all the stories and craziness they’ve inspired me with. Outside of them, Lee Stobby, my manager who took a chance bringing me on board as a client and friend, the past teachers who pushed me to keep writing. And honestly how could I not give a shout out to the friends and creatives I am constantly collaborating with. Joaquin Perez Nogueiras, Travis Gibson, PJ Reily, Alexander Shelley, Quinn McCain and Brooke Bond, they’re all talented and deserve shout outs.
