We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Makrigiorgos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Greg, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I work in tech and have been at a couple “startups” (with 10+ years of being in startup mode). Everything has been unstable to a point. I got tired of working at these companies that grow quickly and shrink quickly if goals aren’t met.

After doing it for so long, and having enough experience, it felt like the right time to build more flexibility into my schedule and work freelance. I get the best of both worlds where I can set my own schedule to a point, but also choose what companies and ventures I put my time into.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always done my best work when I feel safe / genuine with the people I work with. It let’s me get invested in the work, and not the politics. Find companies, roles, and managers where you feel you can tell them what’s on your mind and talk through the problems you’re facing.

In creative, this comes to life for example in brainstorms. If I’m comfortable with the team, I can throw more crazy ideas out there and, occasionally, those ideas produce the coolest work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Comedy is always a solid bet, but you’ve got to customize to the friend. I’d find barcades, high quality food like Jon and Vinnys, or just pizza like Three Beam

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Most of my managers, and theyve all taught me different things. Erika Labbe at GSN Games was my first boss who taught me what copywriting is and how to basically function at work.

Recently Ashley Brandt at Wayfair taught me how to work I a corporate environment, get what I need from my job, and build an effective team.

Currently Meg Ciarallo at Bolt is showing me the impact of transparency and how that builds relationships.
