We had the good fortune of connecting with Ginger King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ginger, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
If you don’t work on your own dreams, you will be working on others’ dreams. If I have to work this hard, it might as well be working for myself to reach unlimited potential.
Success is potential that meets reality. Live your life fully without any regrets.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I help beauty enthusiasts who are tired of run-of-the-mill formulas as well as beauty service providers who are tired of one-on-one service to create their own beauty line so they can have both income and impact as well as leave a legacy. Unlike a traditional cosmetic chemist, I help my clients from concept to launch including formulations they can own.

People usually come to me because they know I am a cosmetic chemist. However, I usually start them off with brand development as I craft their mini-business blueprint so they can go by. They can use this blueprint to navigate their business as well as show potential retailers or investors that they have a plan then I start custom formulating products that meet the brand DNA. There are so many beauty brands and products out there so I need to make sure whatever I create is unique and serves a purpose.

Another element about me is I have been in the beauty industry for 30 years and trained in every single aspect of beauty starting from the retail end to formulation to manufacturing and to sales. I understand what it takes to launch a brand. My clients are also increasingly demanding as they want me to do everything for them. I often joked that I am their surrogate mom for their products, and I have to be their babysitter to help them grow, and nurture the kid as well as find my client’s sugar daddies to continue fueling the brand. It’s a tough job you know.

Remember why I work for myself so I can work on my own dreams? Despite that I have my own company, I am still working on others’ dreams. The only difference is that I get to turn off that nightmare if I do not want the client. Essentially saying you don’t want a boss is not realistic because even if you have a boss title, you work for your client to support your lifestyle. This taught me to be more humble in dealings with people even though I have the ability to fire my clients if I need to. This also brings up a unique way of how I bill my customers. For most consultants, you are charged a project fee upfront and if you do not like the work, you are bound with them. I work differently. I have three tiers and you can leave me any tier as I believe my clients and I need to have the same alignment in order to work happily. I do not like to be handcuffed or held hostage so I structure the way that it’s always a happy marriage or divorce when you work with me. Intrigued by my process? You will have to book a consulting call to learn more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in Southern California will be the Irvine area as there are so many Asian foods. The first time I experienced Kula Revolving Sushi and 85C Bakery was at Irvine. I even had to write them emails begging them to open up in New Jersey as I moved. Guess what, they listened to me!

If you are in Southern California which is highly populated with Asian community, check out hair services and massage services. The pricing is way better than any other city and the massages are great. I used to live in Hacienda Heights which is beautiful and the neighboring Rowland Heights and Diamond Bar also have excellent Asian food as well. I recently returned from a CA trip and gained five pounds so southern CA is not a diet-friendly place just to forewarn you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. Shout out to my mentors Daymond John who gives me a great foundation for being an entrepreneur, Grant Cardone who opened my eyes to my 10X potential, Chris Winfield and Jen Gothleib on gratitude and connecting with people and keeping abreast of A.I so I do not become a dinosaur in technology. Moreover, Pete Vargas and Pat Quinn taught me stage to scale. Last but not least, all my beauty industry colleagues and clients keep me busy on coming out with the best beauty products year after year.
