We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Goerl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was a simple, but drawn out winded journey that was a long time coming. To make a long story short, I had always been into photography and videography as a kid in middle school up through my teens. I essentially have always wanted to be my own boss as I was tired of working a regular 9-5 and going from job to job and wanted a career I could essentially grow into while having the freedom of being able to make my own schedule by working when I want.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think I make moments timeless. When I’m not shooting weddings and capturing love, I like to shoot creative portraiture involving models or sometimes anyone I can get in front of my lens. One of the things I could say that I’m most proud of would be my growth as an artist, the fact that I’m constantly evolving and growing to better my craft. I like to think that if you aren’t learning and growing, you’re just staying the same and you become stale. But what I like to think that sets me apart is when I’m able to capture authentic and candid moments that truly reflects who the individual I’m capturing really is; wether it shows their true self and personality or the love between two people.

Although it can be rare for an individual to allow themselves to be vulnerable in front of the lens, but when they do, it’s like magic.

To get to where I am today, it definitely wasn’t easy, I had to hustle, and still have to hustle quite a lot as I’m still not quite where I want my business to be. But that comes with the territory as unfortunately the career I’ve chosen, which I was well aware, is very oversaturated and there is a lot more supply than there is demand at times. It can be a very dog eat dog, and undercutting industry as there’s always someone around the corner willing to do the same job for cheaper or sometimes even free which can undermine and undervalue our industry.

If anyone was to know anything about me, it’s that I truly want people to see themselves for who they are, flaws and all as no one is perfect. I want my lens to serve as a mirror but for people to love and appreciate what they see.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So If I was to have a someone from out of town visit here, a few places come to mind.

First I would take them to Lake Elsinore to go Skydiving, as the city is known as the skydiving central of California.

Second I would possibly take them ziplining down Skull Canyon Ziplines,
If we wanted something more adventurous we would go for a drive up the Ortega Mountains and stop off at the lookout to overview the whole city and even go hiking up there in the national forest.

For Breakfast, Mo’s Egghouse in Temecula is the place with their complimentary Coffee Cake!

For Lunch I would take them to Wings & Things in Murrieta for a beer and some great wings or if Sushi is more their thing, to DaDa Sushi to visit one of my favorite Sushi chefs, Steve Choi.

Lastly, for Dinner I would highly recommend stopping into Temecula for one of my favorite restaurants Goat and Vine.

For some Nightlife fun and drinks, Old Town Temecula is the place to go for a nightcap and enjoy some drinks, recommended places, Coin Op Arcade, and Thompson and Twain Speakeasy (if you’re able to find it).

For Some Sunday funday activities, the Wineries in Temecula is where you will find a vast majority of the community

Wilson Creek is always a popular and fun spot with good wine, Doffo with their large vintage motorcycle collection as well as some of the smaller wineries such as Danza Del Sol.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say if there was a person that deserved a shoutout would be my good friend Greg Ontiveros. He’s the reason why I picked a camera up again and decided to jump back into weddings and portraiture. He’s a great photographer as well and you can check out some of his work here:
