We had the good fortune of connecting with Gaby Hendry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gaby, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Whether it was stealing my mom’s phone when I was 10 or carrying around a little point and shoot camera in 6th grade, I’ve always loved the idea of capturing a photo. In high school I got my first DSLR camera and I got to learn under Nat Warr Photography what it looks like to make photography a career. After high school, I then decided to pursue a career in photography. I really believe it’s something special to be able to creatively capture a moment through a photo and getting to give that to people brings me joy!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Photoshoots, editing, planning social media, building my portfolio and clientele has been keeping me busy. I love that my job is something I actually enjoy doing!

I love people, getting to meet people and capture wherever they are in their life story excites me. Life is short, and knowing that the art I create in my photography allows people to look back on a certain season of life makes me proud that I get to do photography as my job!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I mean being known as “America’s Finest City” San Diego really lives up to that name. Here are just a few of my favorite things to do in my hometown! A California burrito is a must when in San Diego, you can’t get one any where else! Lolita’s Mexican Food makes a bomb California burrito. Summer or winter, Coronado beach is always perfect for a walk or beach day, and Nado Gelato Cafe is always a good idea. An evening in Little Italy for dinner has such a fun atmosphere with the streets all lit up with string lights. Lastly, sunsets in San Diego are always amazing. Sunset Cliffs with an In-N-Out burger or sushi is always a great ending to a day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout Natalie from Nat Warr Photography and my parents for the love and support I have been blessed with. Natalie took me under her wing, mentored me, and encouraged me to pursue my own career in photography. She was a big part of being the springboard for starting my own business! I am so thankful for my mom and dad’s support in encouraging me to pursue a job that I love. My mom is my biggest fan and my dad is my go-to call for any advice. The constant support from them has been a huge part of where I am today!
