Meet Felicia Wong | Physician, Creative, & Blogger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Wong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a physician, mom, outdoor enthusiast, creative and blogger based in Southern California – there’s a lot to juggle! My time and energy is split between work, family, planning fun adventures, and running our Instagram account Everyday Adventure Fam and blog of the same name. At different points in my life, certain areas may demand more of my time and energy than others, or be more challenging. I try to appreciate each season for what it brings.
Everything I do – whether it’s taking care of patients, creating memories with my family and friends, to what I choose to share on my blog and instagram page – is an act of love. I pour my heart and energy into things that give me meaning and purpose. My goal is not to strive for work life balance in the literal way. Rather, I aim for a balanced soul and heart.
I’ve been able to achieve this balance by regularly practice gratitude, prioritizing what matters most, making sure to fill my cup so that I can keep on pouring, and playing as hard as I work! I’ve always been a multi-tasker with a full and busy schedule, so I’ve learned to rest when I can, and take mental-wellness breaks between flurries of activity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’re the Wong family, also known as the Everyday Adventure Family. I’m mom Felicia, dad is Jason and our boys are Alex and Brian. We live in Southern California and our family motto is “Find the wonder in everyday.”
Because Jason and I are both physicians, we appreciate how precious each day is, and try to make the most of our time together. We recognize how important the outdoors and nature is for physical, mental and emotional well being. On our days off, you can find us hiking, biking, camping, skiing or trying something new like canyoneering or backpacking.
Although we are fortunate to have many adventures big and small – the greatest adventure for us is how we approach life – ALL IN with enthusiasm, lots of energy, and an open mind. We’re always ready to learn and up for trying new things. We enjoying discovering and exploring the outdoors together as a family.
We recognize that it is a privilege to have exposure and access to, and to feel safe in, outdoor spaces. Knowing this is not true for everyone, my family is a committed to sharing information and tips for enjoying the outdoors. On our blog www.everydayadventurefam and instagram @everydayadventurefam – where I take most of the photos and write the content – we share information about gear, hikes, itineraries, and our strategies to help reduce obstacles to getting outside. As an Asian American multigenerational family (since we try to bring my parents who are in their 70s whenever we can), we recognize that representation matters. We have been fortunate to have worked with many brands both in front of and behind the camera over the years to help promote and encourage more diversity in the outdoors.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When out of town friends are visiting, I enjoy sharing with them the things that I love about living in Southern California. I would take them on a hike at one of our many county and state parks. I would plan a beach day complete with sunset picnic on the sand. If there’s a few days, I might take them on road trip to the desert or Joshua tree, or to the nearby mountains over in Big Bear. I’d treat them to a diverse range of foods from dim sum to ramen, to poke bowls to In and Out Burgers.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our lifestyle would not be possible without support: 1) My parents help with drop off and pick ups from school and kids’ activities. They are an integral part of our day to day life, and we are a close multigenerational family. It is because of their support that my husband and I are able to both work as full time physicians, and I have some energy at the end of the day for my creative outlets. 2) I am thankful for colleagues at work who feel like an extension of family. We cover for one another so we can take turns taking breaks.
