We had the good fortune of connecting with Ewa and Matt Washburn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ewa and Matt, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Putting ourselves in the shoes of our customers! From day 1, we always wanted to provide a fantastic customer experience. As consumers ourselves, we understand the value of providing a quality product, having an easy way to interact with the company, making things as user-friendly and approachable as possible, and allowing customers to help themselves, if they prefer, rather than interacting with us.

We are a luxury pop-up picnic company, so everything we do has the customer in mind. We built our website with clear and transparent pricing so there aren’t any surprises when booking. We created a self-serve booking option, that allows you to pick your package, add-ons, date and time, location of your picnic, and pay all through our secure website. We’ve made our contact information easy to find, so you can always ask us questions. Even our Instagram is clearly labeled with package details and pricing, so you can see exactly what you get.

During your actual picnic, we’ve really prioritized the details that make your event special. We focused on luxury materials to make your picnic comfortable and spacious. We labeled every detail so you don’t have to spend time looking for the bluetooth speaker, hand sanitizer, or wondering what kind of cheese is on your charcuterie board.

We receive great feedback on our customer service and the picnic set-up itself. We’ve very proud of the quality product and service we provide, and we believe that is the biggest factor in our success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Sunset Scapes we pride ourselves on providing the most chic and luxurious events for dates, proposals, friend gatherings, family fun, and corporate/team outings.

We provide a luxury pop-up picnic setup for groups of 2 to 12. You choose the package, location, and add-ons and we make it happen! Our style is boho chic, combining beautiful textiles with modern touches.

We are a husband/wife duo that recently moved to San Diego. Our love of creating memorable experiences blossomed when we started planning our wedding in 2019. We wanted the occasion to be just as much about our guests as it was about us. We focused on creating focal points and picturesque scenes throughout our whole event. We took all the lessons learned from our wedding and applied them to our business.

We believe that luxury lives in the details. In order to truly provide a unique and unforgettable experience we have to take care of every aspect of the event for you. All you have to do is show up and have fun.

The customer experience has always been our top priority. We’ve always put ourselves in the shoes of our customers and everything we’ve built, form our website to our Instagram, to our charcuterie boards and materials used for the picnic, have a luxury experience in mind. We pride ourselves on our quality product and service and we believe that sets us apart form others.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Desire Map has played a big part in my personal success. I was very unhappy in my previous career and completing The Desire Map opened my eyes to a completely different way of looking at my career, relationships, and life.

By reflecting on what makes me happy and what I truly desire, I was able to make some big life changes. My husband and I moved to San Diego from Chicago, to prioritize our mental health and happiness. I quit my job and started to pursue my passion for real estate. We opened our first small business—a luxury pop-up picnic company in San Diego. And have even bigger plans int he future.

I wouldn’t be able to make these changes and take such big risks if it wasn’t for friends and family supporting us, and truly looking inward at what we wanted out of life.
